MR2, Girl car?

Iam new to the mr2 scene and hopefully will be part of it soon. I'd like to buy a mk3 mr2 but have gotten alot of people saying its a "girl car" and "cute." Despite what other people have said, what do you think about a mr2?

First off, Welcome!

No doubt it's cute, matter of fact all the Mks are cute. Who cares what other people think. The Spyder is an awesome drivers car. It's all about that smirk you get when you fly through corners.

Ricers like to call my car girly car because it isn't manly without a 20ft high spoiler and 0inch ground clearance no one has called my car girly after being strapped into it though

If you are remotely concerned about what people think then don't get a MK3, it is girly looking. I know, I had a Solar Yellow 2001. However, if you dont care and want a great car then the spyder is an excellent choice for a car. It is unfortunate that it suffers from '"miata syndrome" in that people stay away from it because they are afraid of what people will say despite the fact its a true drivers car and racers take them seriously.

I find as I get older I care less what people think. Of course if anyone calls my MR2 "girly" I would bust out my other car, then show them girly...

Sorry to go off topic but, what are some things I should be looking for when buying a mk3;major issues, years to get, ect? And also, what is a reasonable price?

Your not being OT at all.

The early models (00'-02') experienced precat failure which causes the engine to be destroyed over time. So if your going to get the early models, it's best to check if the precats are still intact by taking the o2 sensor out and looking down the pipe with a flashlight. If all is well, it's best to gut the cat or install aftermarket headers, Che's headers are quite popular. Preventative maintenance.

Agreed - earlier models GUT YOUR PRE-CATS if not done already- then down the road a 2zz swap...

I love mk3's. I was about to change my Celica for one, but decided to invest in my mk2. Next year I'm planning to buy one and then 2ZZ swap.

Yup, stock mk3's are kind of girly, my girlfriends have said. If you want to change the attitude of the car put in it a good set of rims, get a lower suspension and possibly change body kit. I've seen a lot of badass mk3's.

Go for it!
