Disable the annoying back-up beeper

Has anybody figured out how to disable the back-up beeper on their MR2?

I don't know about other years but our 2004 MR2 has a beeper that sounds whenever the tranny is in reverse. I'm pretty sure I can back up safely without it and I would really like it gone!

I've looked thru the shop manuals but have not quite figured out how to disable it and I'm looking for help. Please let me know if you know how to.

Thanks

Cut the wire to the speaker. Or just unplug it. Either way will stop it.

I'm an mk1 guy. I never really heard of a car having a backup buzzer. Just put the car in reverse and look/hear around for it. Once you find it, pull the wires.

I just googled it because I wanted to know about what it was. It's supposably called a pizzo buzzer. Annoying back-up alarm - Spyderchat.com - The Online Community for MR2 Spyder Enthusiasts

mr3,

We just checked it again and found the speaker below and left of the steering wheel however it also operates for other functions so I probably will not just disconnect it. Thanks anyway!

I just drove an MK3 the other day, and wondered why it had that. Is yours automatic or 5spd? The one I drove was an automatic, so I'm wondering if the 5spd has it also.

We have the automatic/SMT Sequential Manual Transmission so I don't know about the 5 spd either.

It is unique to the SMT, the 5spd manual does not have it.
