MK 3 Wheel Compatibility
I am looking for a spare set of used wheels for my 2004 MR2 and I'm trying to determine what other Toyota's may be compatible. According to Tire Rack the wheel specs are:
Front: 15x6.5 Offset: 40mm Backspacing: 5.37" Bolt Pattern: 4-100 Rec. Tire Size:185/55-15 Rear: 16x7 Offset: 38mm Backspacing: 5.53" Bolt Pattern: 4-100 Rec. Tire Size:205/45-16 Does anybody happen to know what other Toyota's may use the same wheel? Thanks! |

A wide variety of wheels will be available for the car if you do not keep the staggered set up, most other Toyotas will have a square configuration.
I have found after 3 separate cars that usually you don't have any issues cross-jumping rims from car to car. The biggest challenge is just finding out the offset (assuming you keep 15 and/or 16inch diameter, and requisite 4x100 bolt) which many OEM rims have stamped on the back of the wheel somewhere. You would be surprised at the number of options you have if you keep with the same wheel diameter what will fit. I was able to fit wheels from a 1985 MR2 onto the spyder (we needed the race rubber in a pinch - still wasn't worth it) although I wouldn't recommend them as they were a tight fit around the caliper and really ugly on a more modern car. It might be easier to buy aftermarket wheels if you just want an extra set. What are they for and do you want them staggered? [edit] the MKII MR2 rims were staggered IIRC and would most likely fit, and would be cheap to find. |

A wheel that should be easier to find, and of low weight for handling, would be those fitting the Miata. I think most 1990-2005 Miata wheels will fit. Keep in mind you may need to use hub centering rings for most aftermarket wheels (have no idea if other wheels by Mr T would also require rings).

I know alot of guys in the UK put the Mk3 Spyder wheels on their Mk1s. I have several different sets of 15" wheels and they fit my Mk1 and the Mk3 Spyder.
The PCD is 4 x 100 and the standard offset is 35 > 38 but you can go to a 45 offset. The other important thing to consider is the centre bore of the wheel hub a Mk1 is 54.1 (this is where your locating or spigot rings come into play). This allows wheels with a larger centre to fit snuggly onto the centre bore on the hub. |
