may have oil underneath engine lid ideas?

I may have some oil on the lower part of the engine lid on my 00 spyder that I just purchased. Has anyone had this happen before? It could have been there from a sloppy oil change from the idiot that changed it before I purchased it. I have watched the engine idle and see no evidence of oil splattering up on the underside of the lid. Any ideas? Thanks. This is my 4th Mr2. I have owned: 1988 SC, 1992 T, and 1989 SC. I am loving being back in a Mr2. The last one I owned was sold in 2000. Any insight is appreciated. Engine is totally stock and accelerates and idles fine with no warning lights on.

sloppy oil change is a possibility, but what you need to look out for is the precat failure.

If nothing appears when revved while parked, then my guess is the same as the original - oil change that left off the fill cap - at least initially.

Sweet. So far, I am leaning toward something having to do with the oil change. I will look at the engine while it is revved to see if any oil shoots out of anywhere. Those sloppy grease monkeys. Thanks again for the posts.

I could almost guarantee the oil cap was left off when the engine was started. I did that once and it was damn messy.

It appears the oil cap was left loose. Whew. That is a relief.
