Davis' MK3: Rosette
Alrighty then, I guess I should make my own thread. I want to keep track of my progress and at the same time post useful information whenever I can. My car is going to be a slow work in progress mainly because I'm trying to stay in CS SK2 (street tire) for autocross. So most of the tid bits are going to be aesthetics until I move onto STR/CSP. And yes, I named her Rosette.
![]() 03' Spectra Blue Mica, 5 speed, no SMT here. 100% Stock. ![]() Started off with little things like Dev's keyhole covers and top straps. I then bought a Phantom Grey Pearl nose shield because the blue and black ones are boring. ![]() ![]() The contrast is beautiful in person. I like to play with colors. ![]() I'm planning to be CS ready by the end of summer, hopefully I'll be able to afford an extra set of wheels and race rubber. I'm not so worried about being competitive because this is all for fun. There's a lot of things I want to do, so it's going to be quite a busy summer and I can't wait! 08/18/2010 Guess I'll make a Table of Contents since I'm bored and there aren't any updates as of late. It's a bit excessive since most of the updates are on the same page, but I guess it'll make it a bit quicker to click the link instead of scrolling around trying to remember where things are._________________________________ Table of Contents 01. Clear Coat Failure FTMFL
Not a performance update, more like preventative maintenance time! Alright, so when I bought the car I noticed that the clear coat was failing around the driverside mirror. I thought that was kind of funny, but at least it was a great way to bring the price down.
So today, I finally got my butt off of mr2.com and went outside for once. I wanted to prevent any more of the clear coat from peeling. Stuff I ordered off of automotivetouchup.com. It was like $30ish shipped. ![]() Damn you clearcoat failure. ![]() ![]() Yeah it looks like ****, but at least I don't have to worry about repainting the whole door! I sanded some of the clearcoat down and started applying the touch up paint as evenly as I could. God damn that's hideous. ![]() I didn't take a picture when I took the mirror off, but apparently the door has been repainted, and they didn't take the mirror off! No wonder it was peeling! As you can see in the top picture, the paint where the mirror covers is the original.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not too shabby, I'm quite happy with it. I'm just glad I don't have to worry about the clear coat dying on me. And while I was at it, I was fixing some little rust spots here and there that the previous owner didn't attend to. Don't worry, those looked 100x better than the mirror! ![]() |

Strip Tease
![]() It's my day off, so I decided to get ready for the Hard Dog install. Thought I should at least get the interior out of the way. It wasn't too bad. The only thing that gave me trouble was that hanging storage board. I couldn't figure out how it came out. After being frustrated for a good five minutes my "I don't care if I break it" mind set came along. I tugged on it and it came off. Turned out it was only clipped onto a bracket haha. From the first Spyder I test drove, my first thoughts were why did Toyota make this car so darn quiet. Being used to the exhaust note / engine tone on my stock MK2, it made it a little more of a challenge for me to rev match / heel toe smooth consistently. Then again I guess that's what the PPE headers and HKS exhausts (on the to do list) are for huh? Having no interior did heighten the noise as expected, but I'm not happy with it. Thought it would be louder!Come in already Hard Dog! ![]() Last edited by Davis; 06-23-2010 at 07:53 PM.. |

Hey Switchlanez
I've seen all your uber rare parts you sold off on Spyderchat! Would love the C-ONE, we'll see if you still have it in a few months. ![]() Haha I would love to leave it out Ben, but it would kick me out of the class I want to run. ![]() |

Dude...Davis...have you removed all the tar mat and stuff. That car should be louder...the lotus is noisy as crap inside. IDK...but you're definitely saving weight LOL.
Oh...and use the freaking tach to rev match ![]() |

Thanks Christian!
I can't remove any of the sound deadening if I want to stay in the class I'm running, but I do have to remove a small chunk to let the roll bar fit, but I think it's legal since I'm installing a safety item. Can't really look at the tach if I'm focusing on the course and the line I want to drive Mark. ![]() C-ONE looks so hawt that I can't stop thinking about it! |

They wouldn't have a way to know if you removed the sound deadening, would they?
