Sorry to chime in late here.
You need to pick up some tack cloth's (as another poster had mentioned), which is basically a thin cloth that has been saturated with a mild adhesive to pick up dust. You also need to pick up a pre-paint cleaner (Eastwood sells one called just "PRE" I think), but any auto paint store should have it. Basically it's windex for for cars, it cuts oil and grease and other solvents that might mar the job. If it's been sitting for a while since you painted it, or if you've sanded it since then, I would probably hit it with some compressed air (outside of your painting area) then wash it to get all the dust off, and dry it with a cloth/chamois/whatever (to keep from leaving water marks). Then let it dry, and hit it with the pre-cleaner and tack cloth before painting again. As I'm sure you've found out, the actual painting is only about 5% of the time that goes into a job. Looks good man, keep going. |

Blasting it off with air is a must especially around door sills and body gaps otherwise it will blast out when you paint. Also around the painting area it is essential to keep clean. Every hour you spend prepping now will add months to the paints lifespan.
Final finish is not far away now ![]() |

I just broke down this past week and bought an oven and powdercoating equipment. I did a test run yesterday, I'm really excited about it. I love making things look good.
Its surprising how similar the preparation for the two processes are. Same rule as always, prep, prep, prep, and prep some more. Took about 1.5 minutes to coat, and 30 to cure. |

Please tell us you didn't go with YELLOW! I used to have a yellow car and let's just say, that's all people remember. It was a toyota too, but I wouldn't do yellow again unless you want to stand out everywhere you go. Specially on an mr2, cops will love you. Just my 2 cents. I see you already have another yellow car, but I guess if you do go yellow it's because you must really love it. Either way, it's looking good though.
