Playing with photoshop
trying to decide what color to paint my mk1.
I'm not a big fan of anything that stands out much, so I'm pretty much sticking with darker colors, blues greens and greys, but if anyone wants to see a color let me know and I'll post it up- or at least try my hand at it. current: ![]() chops: ![]() ![]() ![]() ps, ignore the crappy trim, it's on the to-do list ![]() |

You should definitely do a matte black, I've always loved that.

^I think on some cars, like muscle cars, that looks amazing. But on a smaller, lighter looking car I've never liked it as much.

I was thinking matte black, as I love it- but it's usually hard to keep clean, and fades quickly in the sun.
Satin black, or *any* color, is hot, though. Whatever I do will probably have a satin clearcoat, but I have no idea how to change a finish in photoshop, just colors. dark purple: ![]() any others...? ![]() ps, I've had several friends threaten to disown me if I paint this car purple, but I kinda like it. I'd have to go a tad darker than the pic, but it's hard to photoshop it much darker without it looking cartoony. pps, I used to work at CC too, but I abandoned it like a rat on a sinking ship a few months prior. And then I got drunk and bought $500 in CC stock. ppps, black: ![]() Last edited by como; 07-31-2009 at 12:01 AM.. |

Yeah, definitely a darker purple. But I think if you do go with purple, it should be really glossy. If it's black, definitely matte.
By the way, satin and matte are slightly different, but I am assuming you are using them interchangeably. I usually do to, I'm only trying to make sure we are on the same page. With colors, slight differences are a big difference. And lol @ the CC story. ![]() |

Oh I know they aren't the same. Most people don't understand that though. I am glad you do!

I'm glad I do, too. Satin black is hot. So is satin blue, purple, green, dresses... well, satin anything. Goo.
Darkest purple I can manage, still is obviously chopped, but gives an idea. ![]() |

yeah? It's pretty sexy... but you're just missing the details.
Hint, pull off the tn_prefix for the full res (>1MB hosted on home internet) and you'll see why I'm painting the car. Also, I despise red. Working at CC didn't help that. (Nor did working at target, or staples...) |

I still like matte black the best for it, but the dark purple is actually looking pretty good. As long as you get it somewhat darker, it will look really good.
Could you 'chop a mirror chrome on it, for kicks? I've always wanted to see what a chrome MR2 would look like. ![]() |

When I repaint mine, I'm keeping it bright white, but going blacktop with it. And a nice thick layer of clearcoat.

Cant imagine how I'd do chrome, since it'd up the reflectivity so much... maybe if the thing had a killer shine to it now it would be somewhat doable, but I just don't know. If its slow at work today I'll play around with that, but I make no promises.

Needs a spoiler. Most of those colors look awful without it. Hmmm, purple... I drove my sisters purple grand am for a year in high school and got a bunch of crap for it. I do like purple cars, just not on the grand am. Can you put a stock wing on it in photoshop? I'd like to see what my car would look like purple.
