are they the same?

just wanted to know is the suspension from the 85 is the same as the 88-89 as i need a new bearing plate and was told it is easier to just replace the whole strut. same with the steering rack as i have an 85 and there are very few AW11's in adelaide let alone 85-87.
thanx

The suspension is not the same. If I remember right, the big difference that the strut tubes are different sizes. The springs are pretty much the same though. That said, struts assemblies are interchangable as long as the tube and strut inside are the same revision. The tophat is replaceable separate from the strut assy. I checked around, and it appears at least in aftermarket parts that the tophat (which I assume is the bearing plate) is the same. Hope that helps!
