why oh why do you want polyurethane bushings if you don't know what they do or what they are for??? ya heard of google? or search on the different messageboards? looking for a good deal entails shopping. when/if you go to a mall, do you go to the directory in the center of the mall and read something like "the best deals here"? no. you kinda walk around looking for whatever it is you want and then make your purchase based on the knowledge of what store has the merchandise at the lowest price since you walked about all day, right?!?!

do a search on prothane bushings. no. twos r us isn't the best deal.

^^ Damn dude, take it easy on him. Look, polyurethane bushings will give you a tighter more stable suspension as it does not flex as much as the regular rubber bushings and will last longer as well. As far as where to get them, there is a link section that will direct you to some good vendors that we deal with here, so someone should have a good set for you. I would normally recommend Energy Suspension brand, but I don't think they make any for the MKI.

Poly

On an '85, the original bushings are toast by now and need replacement. OEM will not perform as well as Poly and Poly are cheaper, so why not?

I did a full set on my '85 and it was pretty easy. I had a few tough spots but had done this before so knew what to do. You can take out all the control arms and take them to a suspension shop to have the old bushings pressed out. Pretty cheap and much easier than doing it yourself! Less danger of damaging the metal as well.

The new bushings will tighten up the ride a bit, but more importantly they will give a solid foundation for new stuts/springs. No sense dropping in $1000 worth of Koni's if your bushings are all shot!

thanks guys.
and....
I was looking for the bushings cuz someone else from the boards suggested that i change those if i was planning on getting a good suspension set up on a tight budget.
and...
I WAS looking around for good deals, although google hadnt occured to me...
i have like zero experience with shopping for car parts, cuz this is my first car, and my first little project on it, so i was just looking for some SUGGESTIONS on deals around here from more experienced people. My dad doesnt even know how to change the oil on a car, so i learned nothing from him as a kid. All the info i get is from magazines, friends and uncles.

Uhrm He did ask for help man. Having the Search option on the board is great but it's not required either.

ok, so i've been looking at different prices, and I'm confused.

why is it that the total kits on sale at ebay for 115.00 have like 30 pieces in the picture?
it says comlete bushings kit for 85-89 MR2, but the ones on sale at like two's r us are for 105, total kit, but with only like ten pieces shown in the picture?
another one on sale from ebay was for 84 bucks, but looked like it had about 12 peices.
difference?

The set from Two's R Us is complete, regardless of photo. That's where I bought mine.

Can't always take the pictures as being an accurate representation of the product. I suspect they had a picture of a bushing kit from a different car and chose to just use the same one for all their ads.

^ especially with mr2 parts. they almost always use a generic picture.

i like the torch method for removing bushings. its the easiest way. maybe not the fastest, or cleanest, but you just sit back and watch them melt out.

mine made no difference at all.. but sometimes no difference is good, at least i know ill have zero bushing problems. one less thing to cause any sort of problem!

Loper's here in Phoenix. It's a muscle car shop that just happens to have a "jobber" or "at cost" price for prothane parts. This was two years ago though, so prices may have gone up.
