Will MKIII wheels work on a MKI?

My friend is looking at getting MKIII wheels to use on his MKI. How do these fit? They sit too far in? I know the bolt pattern will work, but not sure about the offset.

Any pics or info would be nice...thanks guys .

Same bolt pattern so it is a direct fit, I'm not sure about offset though

They're just right as is assuming you like a conservative stock like appearance.
They're higher offset, but wider than stock mk1 wheels so they sit just about like stockers.

if you want to compare the specs:

Sorry for the late reply, I have no idea if it had spacers or not. =\ Looks like El Paalo explained it all though.

haha, I actually looked on wheelspecs as my first stop on looking up the wheels. I found 03+ wheels are a little different than 2000-02. He is going for a real clean more stock looking look. Hopefully this is an easy/cheap way to get that. Thanks guys!

03+ wheels are half an inch wider out back IIRC.

Are the MK3 spyders 5 lugs or 4 lugs?

They're definitely not flush. I have 00-02 mk3 wheels on my '86 and the front wheels definitely look tucked a bit. I haven't bothered to measure, but both front and back could stand to be moved outward a bit more.

Does anyone use hubcentric rings for their aftermarket wheels?
