Stock 85 brakes strong enough for track duty?

I'm building up an '85 MR2 to be used solely as a track toy. My attention has come to the brakes, and I'd like to know from anyone with experience if the stock rotors and calipers can handle an entire day of track duty. This will be with SS lines, good racing pads and fluid of course.

Additionally, I hear that the '87 brake rotors can be swapped in, will these work with the '85 calipers or will I need those as well? Search gave some mixed info

I'm not 100% up-to-speed on the Mk1 brakes, but you should be ok with a bottom-of-the-line track pad, higher temp fluid (at least 500* dry boil point), and the lines aren't nessecary unless you just want to do them.

Most cars are able to get out there on track safely as you're learning and getting up to speed with that mild an upgrade unless they just have woefully inadequate factory brakes for the car's horsepower and weight (80s & 90s V8 Mustangs, etc that kind of stuff).

87 rotors could be swapped I had an 85 before w/ 87 rotors & brackets If I remember,85 rotors will survive but It will be weak,I made my old ones glow red many times lap after lap.

Same thing with the 87 rotors but its slightly better nothing special,I would just save your cash for some high friction pads.

you need the 87+ caliper brackets if you are going to use the 87+ brake rotors in the rear. otherwise it (bracket) won't clear the rotors.

the brakes should be fine.
