define "best". it would depend on the build purpose of your car.

best... well I'm going all out race 4agte but on a budget. not looking to do new valves, but springs I can do. if I have to drop the compresion, I understand. I was planning on that anyway. I will most likely be changing the turbo out to a T3/T4 from the T25 that I have now. Shooting for 275 to 300 whp.

I was going for about the same power on a tad larger turbo. Best bang for the buck is just using the stock NA cams. They have a tad more lift and duration that the supercharged cams, so they should be fine for only 275whp.

what about any of the web cams?
and the SC cams are not that good huh? I thought they would have a better duration then the N/A. I guess I was wrong. If I did go with Aftermarket cams, What would be a god profile to go with? |

there are many who use a 264 in and a 272 ex, but from what i've figured-out on most messageboards, too many people talk out of their butts and don't put dyno charts or any other empirical info when they advertise their claims, so...
nah, the sc cams are a bit mild. i have a cam profile list somewhere, lemme see if i can find them... |

well, i'm saying, if you decide to buy cams, please do some research! ask for dyno plots and mods list. i've heard the crower 26something cams are great without such a crazy ramp! anything 8.5 mm or higher lift will require some clearancing in the shim/bucket area of the head. oh! be very, very weary of the TED Component cams...they don't look right for some reason...there are so many that claim so much BS but it's mostly internet or magazine r&d...LOL! i've always been a bit skeptical of what some who have no empirical facts and have been better because of it!

IMO using the stock s/c cams you would still get your ~300hp with the correct turbo, i/c, tuning etc.
bit of lift is good for turbo, you dont want too much duration. |

Ditto to what Feral said Vince. The early 4a cams were slightly more aggressive and the later years SC and NA shared the same cams, but I've never seen a dyno chart that shows any gains from switching them.

one of the only regrets i have is NOT having a dyno graph of my car before i did any mods at all. i kinda had to fix things as i went...most things all at the same time because of a stupid, stupid PO.

I'm using Web 577 cams in my car and you've seen/heard how it runs. Idle is best kept above 1200 RPM and driveability below 2100 is not great. Past 2500 RPM it drives as smooth as a stocker. It's on stock valve springs and shim-over buckets with no problems yet. Stouter springs might not be a bad idea though. If I ever make the jump to bigger cams, you can try mine... I ran a set of Web #101 cams in a built GZE with good gains. It pulled alot harder in the top end. Around 252 duration I believe with 8.89mm lift yet still a drop-in cam that can be used with stock springs/valvetrain.
I wish I still had them, I might have to get another set. Very good street cam IMO as the car was my daily driver. Also two 85/86 exhaust cams with the ports/valve seats cleaned up and a nice valve job can net some extra gains without the $$ of aftermarket cams Brando |

Web #101 cams are the largest cams that Web Camshafts offers without going to a shim-under bucket setup. The Web #577 is a little more mild (.330" lift instead of .350" lift) I used a set of #577 on a NA 4AGE and #101 on a modded 4AGZE.
I would definitely get the #101 for street/strip use. I had no problems at all daily driving on stock ECU with the #101s Brando |
