thanks, how would i go about hooking it up? would it do any damage driving it? by the way if i was in the USA i would have got one of your harnesses but being in australia i thought shipping would have been too long, little did i know how long it was going to take anyway.

okay, i got the codes however i dont know what they mean so if anyone could help that would be great. i got 2 1 4 2 then i disconnected the battery for 20min and got 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1. i was told to disconnect the battery as the ECU can "remember" codes so i guess thats why the 4 isnt there any more.

You have codes 21 and 42. Code 21 is for the O2 sensor, and 42 is for the vehicle speed sensor.
21 won't cause the CEL to come on. 42 will under certain circumstances. Usually you have to be revving above 5000rpm's for more than 30 seconds or something like that. You must be cruising at 100+mph. Code 42 doesn't cause the ecu to go into limp mode, it only flips on the CEL. The advantage to not having the speed sensor hooked up is that you can exceed 120mph. With it hooked up, you'll be speed limited to 120. |

thanxs heaps. is the O2 near the headers or further down the exhaust? 100mph, i wish, it has only done that on the dyno (old engine). 100mph in australia means car go by by and i dont drive for a few years. i was going 60kmph (about 45mph i am told) but it was up hill and that was in third. the other time it came on i was leaving the servo but i might have hit 5,000rpm but only for a moment b4 i changed gear. i'll take the car for a drive tonight and see how it goes.

i forgot to ask, would the car be okay to drive, day to day? basically i just want to know if it would do any damage even if the light comes on. also where is the speed sensor so i can have a look at it.

It won't hurt anything to run without an o2. There is a guy here in Atlanta who actually passed emissions without an o2 on his 20v. If you want to be cheap about it, just use a 1wire o2 and plug it into pin3 on the o2 plug. It still gives the code, but accepts the signal. This trick only works with blacktops.
The speed sensor is in the cluster on the mr2. A wire runs back to the ecu to give it the signal. It's the purple and white wire coming of that trunk connector. |

i am going to replace it i just would like to be able to drive the car in the mean time. when replacing the O2 would it be from a corolla (where the 20V came from) or another 85 MR2? i am getting a full exhaust system done in a couple of weeks so i will get it done then. thanks again for all the help, you have been a real champ.

"The speed sensor is in the cluster on the mr2. A wire runs back to the ecu to give it the signal. ok, i took it to the mechanic today and he couldnt find the sensor on the gear box so i'll go down and have a look at the donor MR2 and see if i can find it on the cluster.

Uh .. the picture needs to be hosted somewhere for it to be visible with the IMG tags. On a web server, not your local PC.
You can attach the picture to your post if you need to. |

ok, i am still having a really bad time with my speed sensor. is there a way i can trick the car into not picking up this? i tried the sensor that the mechanic gave me but it wasnt it as the light still comes on. i dont mind driving it but the light really annoys me and removing the globe would just be dodgy. i am trying to get it booked into another workshop but they are really hard to get onto for any involved work.
thanks again Jordan Mista 2 |

Just run the purple and white wire from the trunk body connector to the SPD pin on the 22pin ecu connector.
It's the only P/W wire coming off that connector. |
