Exhaust manifold GLOWING HOT

What would cause this? Its a 85 NA

I know a lean condition would cause this but it seems to be running fine. What would you suggest?

Thanks

Braxton

Glowing hot all the time or after a hard drive??... my stock one Always glows orange after a nice "spirited" jaunt. You don't notice it so much unless the heat shields are off, then it is very noticeable, especially at night. I haven't noticed how much/often my N/A glows, the S/C doesn't have heat shields on so I see it glowing pretty often .

This happened to one of my old Fieros a long time ago... The exhaust manifold was glowing red. It turns out that the cat was plugged.

I haven't checked the temps so I'm not really sure. I've got a Spal fan stuck up under my intercooler so I figured taking the heat shield off wouldn't have an adverse effect on engine bay temperatures really. It doesn't seem to anyway.

I agree with MR2ace, but another factor with a clogged Catco is if your power seems almost gone seems like it would be struggling to get up to speed.

can i run a test pipe in place of my cat? Just to try to see if it is plugged and it is causing the manifold to get hot? Will it set off any codes or cause any other probs?
Also can you gut on of these cats? Just to use as a test pipe? What would this hurt besides the ozone?
Thanks

If you go as far as to take the cat off, you will be able to tell if its plugged. You won't be able to see much light through it. This would be my guess as well. Put a high flow cat on in its place. Be sure to get the correct type especially if you have to get emissions tested.

You're probably fine, just don't throw cold water on it like Jiffy Lube did with mine.
