Forgive me if this has been beatin to death but the stickies links on the 3sgte swap are all dead, so I rather just give my questions straight here. Ok so Ive always loved Mr2s from the first time I rode in my neighbors mkI 7 years ago, well with a little time and a rod through the 4age block hes gonna sell me the car for pretty cheap, around $300 maybe, still havent worked it out but that doesnt matter, now Im really curious about the 3sgte swap, but had a hand full of question. So here we go:
1. Where can I find a write up so I can see what i need for this swap? 2. I know some fab work will half to be done but I dont mind that, would it be easier If i just to get a clip or would it be more wise to just by the engine tranny ecu combo for cheaper, only reason why I ask this is because my recent cars have been mkiii supras, and I know doing a 1j swap its a hell of a lot easier to just by an engine clip because of the random senors and stuff dealing with steering and intercooling, would this apply to the 3sgte, or is most of the stuff in the engine bay of the 4age compatiable with the 3s? 3. Ive heard that the 3s catches on fire in the mki, is this true? and why can you just run so extended stainless steel braided lines away from the turbo? 4. I kinda need costs so if anyone has them please can you send me a pm, like of the full entire swap I want to keep it reasonable 5. Can you make a JDM 3sgte US legal, as in making it pass visual and the sniffer in CA 6. Anyone have any drag times with stock turbo and stock internals? If anyone has any answers they will be greatly appreciated, thanks -Kevin |

Kevin,
1. Here is a link to the links section, there might be something in there to help you out. MK2 - MR2 Links Directory 2. In my opinion, a clip is the best option because you get everything you will need for the swap with a clip. Most people spend more money putting their own kit together and usually takes twice as long to acquire everything. 3. There have been a few cases of the 3S catching on fire. I personally believe this is a rare case that can happen with any car. A fuel leak, hose too close to a heat source, lightning strikes....etc. 4. Full clips can be found at different places..... KORACING :: High Quality Automotive Parts - Products ATS Racing ChicoRaceWorks - Your MR2 Specialists 5. Yes, but you will need to have the head tapped for an EGR. Talk to Josh at ChicoRaceworks, I was told he has the equipment and knowledge to get the job done for you. 6. The Toyota MR2 Racing Records Site - Hosted by The MR2 Owners Club Hope that helps ![]() - Dave |
