Is your current engine blown?
If your car runs, be smart, and save up your money. Don't blow it on cars until you have so much money that it doesn't matter. |

enjoy the car the way it is and mean while save your money so that when you do decide to do the swap you'll be prepared (financially) for the unexpected.

You may find a ST for $450, but unless you know wiring like the back of your hand, and do not replace anything on the motor (which will eventually bite you in the ass) youll need at least $1000-1200 for the swap.
So far and counting, Ive spent over $2200 on my ST swap, But Ive replaced a TON of stuff and even bought upgraded goodies And to boot I still have about another $400 to go before its all said and done and in my car running, I could throw it in there right now and be good, but I want it to be right, so I do it my way.Im gonna agree with raptor13x...and add some... Your 16 all your posts so far to date Ive replied to have led me to believe you were young, I was right. Learn how to drive a car first, then mod it. Im 27 you got a long way to go to maturity. |

The best thing to do is wait for something major to happen. If you're pushing 250k+ then something will go wrong sooner or later. Wait till you have a BHG, or at least need a clutch. This will also give you time to go start saving.
When you do go to get a motor, pick the cleanest one you can find. Not the cleanest externally, but the cleanest one internally. Take a look under the oil cap, and take the valve cover off if the place will let you. Getting the cleanest motor possible will minimize the amount of rebuilding/refreshing you need to do. Timing belt and clutch are two high priority replacement items. Seals would be next priority. There are a whole bunch of things you could replace, but should not be necessary if you get a decently clean motor. I've had guys successfully swap silvertops for just over $1000, including the wiring. It's a nice upgrade, is cheaper than getting a 16v rebuilt, and only somewhat more than just getting a decent used 16v. |

I'd agree. If everything on your current vehicle works fine, then leave it. Save the expensive mods for later. In the mean time do some easier things (or not), such as fixing any rust, interior flaws, or exterior flaws. Fix everything you can on the car now, so when you eventually swap it everything will be in place.
