I bet nearly 1/2 of car crafters could do a rear frame setup if they had help with welding.

I've also fabbed motor swap mounts, and the easiest way to do it is to set the
new engine in place with the engine plates bolted to it and measure and cut the
parts needed to fill in the gaps.

By "beyond the skills of 99% of us" I don't think he is making fun of or talking down to us. I believe he means the ability and knowledge to make a totally safe, functional and legal tube frame. I know if I had help with the welding I could make one, but I done know what the math is behind making a cage so it would probably just collapse when it got hit. No hooray for sandwich cage!

You got me there, most of us would need help with getting one right and light.
Mine would be probably overkill. But no sandwich!
I was just saying that more car guys do have the ability to do things they think
are beyond them, perhaps a tube frame is a bad example but most of us have
learned lots just by trying! You are right about the cage and some other
things should best be done by the professionals. A partial subframe is well
within most anyone's ability if they can weld, but tube frame welders are certified
as I recall. I have certified as a welder in my profession, but that is a far cry from
C 25.1 or whatever it is called for chassis and tube frame welders.

Thanks for the friendly reminder!

PS: Like your video at the bottom! My fave one was "You get an "F" and snatched it off his car, and it was called "the Lame"

exactly !! for a start i used the word "us" which includes me

i meant it in the way that you have got to give the guy credit ay

and the welding isnt the hard part
even i can weld (badly) metal together, but if i home built half a car chassis and then (over) powered it with a crazy engine then i wouldnt want to be the test pilot

the difference between putting a mk2 engine in a a mk1 (which is difficult enough) and putting a v8 in a mk1 is huge, thats all
