Know of a good place in So Cal for machine shop work for my 4age rebuild?
Need a good recommendation for good machine shop in Southern California for my 86 NA engine that Im rebuilding.
I'm still deciding on wether to use Weisco or Arias for new pistons...which would you pick? I'm just keeping it stock with no mods other than the pistons. Thanks for any help! |

I've rebuilt only a couple of engines . . . but rebuilt engines done in the U.S. are incredibly sloppy in terms of bearing fitting and clearances. Its quite likely for a rebuilt to turn out to be an oil burning POS that lasts maybe 50k miles.
Imported used 4age engines are somewhat of a crap shoot, but the odds are better that you'll end up with a long lasting, trouble free unit. Also the cost could be up to a couple thousand less than a rebuild. And finally JDM 4age's have higher compression, with noticeably more horsepower & torque, but burn premium only. If I were in your situation, I'd go for a used JDM from a reputable import firm. |
