make it out of steel, aluminum is too soft, i crack 2 of them at the key way

You can, you will probably have to make it a lock up pulley that won't disengage ie it goes all the time unless your a real wizz with the lathe and electro clutch assemblies. I have heard of using a ford falcon EA pulley although I'm not sure if you have them or the equivilent in america, there are heaps in aussie and NZ. Was always going to do this but never got around to it. Looks really cool, there might be another cheap american wreck you could pull the pulley from. Although making your own wouldn't be that hard either. And yes use steel if you do, there isn't that much weight to spin that it is a huge issue. |

Uhm . . . there are some size considerations. The largest pulleys require a new and smaller idler pulley. If that happens, BMW makes an idler pulley that fits with just a washer to shim it up that is considerabley smaller and cheaper ($50.) than the Yota oem idler.
