W2A inercooler radiator placement
I was told that I can put the radiator in the trunk but I didn't know how much air flows through the trunk. I'm getting a 12x12x2 radiator and 10 inch fan.
I was thinking about putting it on the passenger side in the trunk. there is a path that gos to the top of the finder past the strut tower. this on a 85 with 4agze swap. any help is much appreciated. jason |

I'm not sure about the mkI but if you loook under the carpet there are the vents that allow the air pressure out of the trunk when you shut the lid... They may be able to be utilized to increase airflow in the trunk

Put the IC radiator in front of the standard radiator in the front. Do the necessay plumbing work.
If you somehow created airflow in the rear trunk, everything in the trunk would soon be wet, rotting, rusting or corroding. Rain would get in somehow with the ventilation. |

well I have an 85 and there isn't any room up front at all. The brace that holds the locking mechanism for the frunk lid is in the way and some kind of little bars(or pipes) are there to. I think on 87+ the rad is set back more or at an angle, there is one in a junkyard I can look at Friday but I need some options.
I was thinking about relocating the BAT and cutting out the base where the BAT sets and mounting it w/ fan down there by fuel filter and canister?? |

Get some scrap metal strips . . . and make new Radiator mounts in back of the originals. Then move the radiator back an inch or two. This should give you room to put in the IC radiator. Also, most MKI's AC is non-working, so you can scrap the AC condensor piece while you're in there. Removing the AC condensor would also give you more room to play with.
The engine bay is too hot for the IC radiator, remember that's why you were considering putting it in the rear trunk. I believe you are making a really good move with the Water to air IC cooler. I wish I had went that way instead of the 2 stage water alcohol injection system that I have. Its like a really beautiful, young girlfriend . . .. too high maintenance for me. |

I agree that you want to get your A2W intercooler radiator(s) located in the front with fresh, cool airflow. Is a new front airdam an option?
For my A2W intercooled AW11 twincharger project, I have a Kaminari KA60300 front airdam. My two small radiators for the water intercooler are located in the left and right side ports of this air dam, instead of fog lights that most people have in these ports. I'm hoping this configuration will work well on my project. I'll also be able to observe the intercooler inlet and outlet water temperatures on a digital PLX gauge, so from that data I'll be able to calculate how efficiently the intercooler radiators are working, and get a warning signal if the water temperature is running higher than it should. Perhaps a bit overkill, but I consider more data to be more fun. If I have measured data before you finalize your water intercooler radiator location, I'll let you know the performance of the setup I described. |

I don't think that would work to well if you mean running the IC piping to the front to a front mount. I'm using a water to air IC so the part that cools the water needs to be mounted up front and the ICer itself will be in the engine bay.
I wonder has any one used an IC from the MK2 placed in the vent?? |
