Which belt for HKS pulley? Been a while...

Hey guys,

It's time for me to change my drivebelts on my 4AGZE. It's been a while. I have the HKS oversized crank pulley. I'm trying to remember, when I first got the HKS pulley, how much longer a belt I got for it. I remember discussions where I was told to get a 1 inch longer belt. But I know that the belt is measured in cenitimeters, so I'm confused.

If anyone can remember which belt they got, it would be greatly appreciated.

380K5
385K5
375K5

These are coming to mind.

Also, which brand of belt is recommended, would be helpful.

Thanks so much,
Aly in NY

Unless it has worn off, the length should be printed on the belt.

Yeah, that's the problem, Rande. It's worn off. :-)

I'm just trying to figure out if I should go one size larger than the standard belt, or two sizes larger.

Can you wrap a piece of string/twine/wire/etc. around the pulleys next to the belt then measure the length of the string?

Not a bad idea, Rande. I may try that, if no one has an answer for me. Only thing I wonder thought, is if it's going to be accurate, since I have a feeling the belt has stretched over time.

Thanks,
Aly

The belts usually come in 5 or 10 mm differences. If you think it is stretched that much get the next size smaller than your measurement (string).

Instead of trying to wrap a string around the pulleys, simply remove the belt and measure its length. Assuming you have the timing belt covers in place, you won't be able to measure anything until the car is disabled.

Another option is to bring the belt to the parts store. Perhaps a bit old school, but most will have a device that measures the length of the belt.

Or, you could call CyberAuto [321-725-3159 (Phone)] or another HKS distributor and ask, or HKS itself [(310) 491 3300].
