Well it was way before xmas 2009 last time i touched the car so i decided to selfishly leave the garage work for one day and do as much as i could to the v8.

After a few hours the engine and gearbox are now out of the car for the final time, only now can you see the structural work to the chassis that has gone on, you can see the new crossmember tied into the old one and the box section from the engine bay side. I have a lot of work to do here, seam welding, sealing and painting the whole bay out before the engine can go back in for the last time. I also have a lot of heat protection and sound deadening to add.

It all needs a damn good clean up as well!

Here is my baby...

Now that it's back out i plan on going to town on it, rebuild it with fresh gaskets, detail everything and port/polish those heads, i have already seen they aren't properly port matched to the plenum so i think i can get some gains in this area.

They look incredibly similar to 3vz ports, so if we get the same 15% gain on this engine with no cats and the standalone i "could" potentially be talking about 400bhp NA Although i would be incredibly happy with its stock 350bhp.

Absolutely amazing thread.
Friggin V8 in a MK1. This is the stuff of dreams.

One question. How hot did the interior get fully warmed up?

It actually didn't get very hot at all, you have to remember there is not as much heat transfer to the cabin as a transverse mounted engine in an Mr2 because the exhaust headers are on the sides of the engine, not rammed up against the front firewall.... so i didn't notice any extra heat in there and that was without the covers fitted to the firewall, it was left open during testing.

My V8 has now been tore down for new gaskets, detailing the whole thing and some headwork (350bhp NA just isn't enough , i'm shooting for 400 )

I have decided to ditch this massive pile of crap oil filter housing/cooler, it weighs about 6kgs and about 8kgs with oil and water in it... a total waste of time...

So off it came, i will plumb too flexi oil lines to those two ports instead...

My bores are in perfect unworn condition which i am very happy about, in fact the whole engines internals look like new.

after seeing all this work done. i wish all the people that start these 1UZFE swaps in MK2 MR-2's actually finish one.

if i had to wager. you Mr Wood could furfill the dream and stick one in. whether it be transverse or mounted longitutinal. that would be nice. im sure that 4.0 1uzfe v8 can be reworked to put out 400hp N/A as well.

I already tried with the 1uz years ago and failed, it requires too much cutting out of the chassis and tube framing, here is my 1uz that i had bolted to an E153 trans...

It can be made to work though, AEK proved it with his 1uz Mk1, i just chopped too much out of the car and gave myself a mountain to climb.

I don't think anyone else is trying with the 1uz though? The audi engine is a much nicer unit

I sure hope that you'll be able to get some traction. You might be burning rubber through 3rd or 4th gear.

most people always get to the mounting the transaxle to the 1uz. but not much after that. i suggested once to use the Type II tranny from an Acura Legend or Honda Legend that has the engine mounted north south configuration. those were 6 speeds at that. but im sure that would be hell figuring out how to mount that box in a MK2 body

The 5 speed tranny's that the Vigor and Legend used on the G25A (2.5 5cyl.). allowed the engine to be mounted longitudinally and still be FWD like a transversely mounted motor. The trouble with fitting one to another engine is that in those applications the drive shafts went THROUGH the oil pan.

No pics sadly but today i got the fuel tank filler pipe and overflow pipe sorted, thetank vent to charcoal cannister done, the fuel filter mounted permanently and fuel return hardline routed around the bay. I also got the brake servo hard pipe done and seam sealed the front firewall.

The engine gets built up this week with ported and polished heads and i have bought the 034motorsport oil gallery adapter to ditch that pile of crap oil cooler assembly

So things are picking up pace again now the better weather makes it easier to work on the car.

Update pics from my work last weekend, i got loads done, all of the major fuel/vac/servo lines installed on fixed tubing/ P clipped up properly, along with the clutch line.... and the whole bulkhead area where the engine sits has had heat mat bonded to it. It needs a little tidying here and there but the bay is coming on a treat now...

Also my 034motorsport oil gallery adapter came, here it is fitted...

I had to make the heater line bypass assembly pretty much from scratch... i used a pipe with an O ring on it that fits the block snugly, then swung it 90*, stuck a securing bracket onto it and hardpiped it to the original heater line that would normally go into the oil cooler assembly..... i think it has worked out quite well...

Today i got the heads torqued down, and the cams refitted... all a bit alien to me working on Audi stuff after so many years of Toyota engines but they are beautifully engineered. My cam covers are also painted, i've gone for a stock Toyota Mk2 shade...
