Nearly completed work on the front firewall now, just needs some paint and a flap for oil filler access and it is done. All of this will be soundproofed and carpeted, hopefully keep the noise levels down!

My only worry is going to be heat. Does it have the room to bring the air out the bottem and out through the top? Just something to keep in mind.

Heat is not expected to be as much of an issue as an East/West mounted engine, primarily because the headers are not jammed up against the front firewall, so it will not be cooking the firewall in that respect.

There will be ducting and fans added all over the place on this car to get as much air in and out of the bay as possible too... we shall see how it goes.

I'm glad you thought that through before rushing into anything. Keep up the good work and take plenty of pics and vids of this thing.

Ok a little update, my new rear subframe is now complete, it is now a one piece design like a mk2 subframe that ties the chassis rails together....

There are quite a few plates and trusses added to this...

On the cars original crossmember i added mounting points for the new frame.

And here is the new subframe painted with temporary rustproofing (i will get all of these components shot blasted and properly painted on final assembly)

This is stronger than before i reckon....

I also added some support trusses to the transmission cradle...

Also i have heard my ECU and engine harness are ready and should be with me shortly so although i don't get much time to work on this it is progressing along.

Paul Woods is how I spell Relief.

I finally found someone on the board that is certifiably crazier than I am.

At first I thought this thread was a hoax. You have to admit the first few photos looked like they could have been edited/pasted.

But damn it the photos of the re-done firewall and shifter linkages prove to be mechanically correct, and just about impossible to fake.

I admire the vision, workmanship, planning, and problem solving skills involved.

Glad you guys are enjoying the build, it will take some time to get this totally completed as i really don't get to work on it a lot because of the garage commitments i have, but ALL of the problems are now worked out and it is only a matter of time before it starts and drives.Looking forward to the plumbing and wiring stage plus my exhaust system will be rather special too.

Oh and serious LOL's at the thought that this might be a fake/photoshop I wish the money i have spent so far getting to this stage was pretend....

Stage two of this project (when i have driven the car for about 6 months and thoroughly roadtested it) will be the addition of two large turbos either side of the engine or a Vee mounted Eaton M112 supercharger unit, or possibly both (compound charged) if i can afford the engine internal upgrades. That is probably a silly idea though, so probably just go for one or the other.

Go the SC route for the "Can O' Instant Whoop Ass" effect. You'll get the jump on some turboed Italian super car for sure.

Rubbish! Go the twin turbo route or, if you can really make it work, go compound - SC for the power from the start and turbo for the top end kick! I stand by my previous comment - you are insane

Hey, why doesn't the Forum start a email campaign to get Mr. Wood's car on the TV show "Top Gear".

Mk I's absolutely get no respect or coverage in any Pimp my ride, Chip Foose show, Hot rod Garage show, Car Crazy, etc.

We ought to grab the bull by the horns . . . . and then we'd see what the Stig could do with Mr. Wood's car!

Who'd have ever thought about a longitudinally mounted V8 in a MK1? Nuts, but in a good way.

Er... that's not a good idea........ i AM the stig!

Wish i was, my driving ability is more like stevie wonders.

I know the idea of putting a v8 into a mk1 looks nuts but the more you see that engine in there everyday the more it looks "right" if that makes sense?

Seriously, we could probably swamp Top Gear with emails to get your rig on the show. I think the Mark I guys could get behind it.

Nice MR Frankie, your monster is almost awake...hahaha...don't ask. It's almost 2am here and all I can think of is Frankenstein right now. Anyway, I want to ask you, what rear bumper are you using? I like it. Or what did you do to it? Plus those pipes look very nice coming out of that car. Now that I think about it, maybe that tranny sticking out the back would have look pretty good too. Like the Formula one cars, hehe.

This is why I stay away from these forums, habits like these turn into obsessions! It never ends... Here I am starting with my little change here and a little something there. Even those of us who aren't crazy about getting under the car get sucked into it...ahhhhhh!
