Just a small update, i am in the process of extending my ECU harness so that it reaches into the cabin, it is important that i get it away from the engine bay heat, hilly has once again been a legend and sent me some shielding for the signal wires.

Other than that i have been waiting for my induction pipework to arrive, i needed some 3.5" alumiunium mandrel bent tubing and i just could not find this in the UK, so i ordered some from the US.... this is just dummy fitted, no clips or anything yet and attaches onto my "inner wing secret airbox"

I am nearly ready to pull the engine back out for the final time, prep/paint the bay and pretty everything up for the final build.

Well she is now inside in the dry for the winter and on the mobile lift, this means i can make massive progress this winter to get her ready for next summers show season.

Needless to say i have a ton of work ahead of me.

I imagine so, but considering how far it's come, this is worth the wait. I am thinking of doing a V6 swap myself, would be a first but I wish I lived over the pond by you so I'd be able to take notes...you do some really nice work.

Well i am more than happy to advise/help you tackle your swap via email, it wouldn't be the first time! My best advice is to sign up on TWOBRUTAL MR2 and when you start your build thread you will get masses of help from me and all of the other UK guys.

Nice one, in the meantime spend as much time as you can reading the v6 build threads on there, it really is a huge resource for home swappers.

Um i have had that one for about 6 months and it cost me £800 GBP from ebay second hand, that's about $1300 i think.

The other two fixed 2-post lifts we use are much better for working on an Mr2 though....

We just couldn't do the job properly without these two.

While those are nice, moost of us probably won't have the room for one in our garages. I'll be sure to read up on the V6 swap threads, really want to do it, just waiting for my 5SFE to blow. At this rate it may be a while, got 185K miles on the dial and still kicking like a new engine.

I've been planning a V6 swap myself (Like so many other board members ) but I'm really interested in the 2GR.

What goes into a 2GR swap that's different from a 3VZ/1MZ swap? And how does it mount to the transmission?

The 2gr is just lots of little things, once you have goukys mounting kit it hangs easily, it needs a helicoil inserting into the block for one of the transmission bolts and the front exhaust header modifying if you want to retain them and the cats.

Wiring wise it is a bit complicated too.

Ah, see I'm not worried at all about wiring. And I would be welding a custom exhaust for any swap I do, so I'm not concerned about that.

How much does a 2GR+ECU/wiring cost?

Ok, I think I am ready to admit that I may have a problem. I have read this entire thread at least 4 times. Each time I read every post and look at all the pics. Sometimes I re-read in the same session. What a great idea, and we MR2 enthusiasts get to watch with eager anticipation as "our baby" comes to life.

Paul, thank you for sharing this project with the community. If you ever get weary doing the work, just remember that your MR2 brothers are cheering you on

Hey thanks for the support, this is one project that will definately be completed no matter how long it takes.Part of my drive to see this through is that we have a few "keyboard mechanic" idiots on this side of the pond who have said it will never get built,it isn't possible and it won't work and basically like to put us down. That's a red rag to a bull as far as im concerned

They seem to have gone strangely quiet over the last few months though.... i wonder why!

More updates coming soon.
