There are a few reasons to stay away from the J37. It's very expensive right now, the block casting is a little bit different so it won't bolt up to the old 6MT (and the new one is SH-AWD), and did I mention it is expensive?
I bought two J Series engines last week: a J32A2 (02 TL Type-S) and a J35A4 (04 Honda Odyssey) to frankenstein together. Having lurched Honda forums about this engine series almost constantly for about a week now, I'm confident that I can make 300+ whp without getting into aftermarket internals. The Odyssey rods and crank are going into the TL motor..... I've already got DC headers for it..... the factory TL-S pistons are forged and will make 11.8:1 compression with the Odyssey stroke.... there is a good bit of power to be had opening up the 3 piece intake manifold and increasing it's volume.... the throttle body bolt pattern is the same as a D-Serier (crazy?) so I can get a cheap 72mm TB upgrade... and I'm going to run Megasquirt. If that doesn't spell +300whp I'll need to get my hands on the newer (not newest mind you, they are not compatible) TL-S cams. The main motivation for going with this motor is the LSD 6 Speed box ($600-$800 if your lucky) being available for the J series. Also, the plenum is above the engine instead of off to the side like Toyota V6's so I might not need to hack the bulkhead as much. It's going to be a fun project and I think I am going to be very pleased with the eventual results. I'll have a build thread going sometime soon. I hope to see the MR8 up and running soon. This is definitely pushing the envelope. I don't know if the question has already been asked, but did you weight the motor & trans while they were out of the car? |

Well today was a massive day.... ladies and gents i am proud to announce the MR8 is born!
We had problems finding a laptop crappy enough to have a serial port on it, in the end we dragged the office PC out and hooked that up to the VEMS, anyway i will let the video do the talking, the noise this thing makes is the most evil thing i have ever heard... In stock form in the Audi S8 the AHC version i am using delivers 340bhp, but that is with the stock ECU and CATS, i have no CATS and standalone so i'd like to think 350bhp is a minimum it will see.
That's until the stage 2 turbocharged route, then who knows! |

I dedicate that last drink to this project that sounded awesome. Another awesome conversion you have there Mr Woods. I want to see it backed out and thrashed in some empty space haha.
