20V Silvertop legal in California

I am debating on whether to do a silvertop conversion of my 89 MR2 or to just rebuild the 16V. Is a silvertop legal in regards to emissions and everything else in California? I don't know much about emissions laws, except that California is far too strict.

Nope, not legal. Passes tailpipe, but fails visual. Basically it fails just for being a jdm motor.

You'll want to avoid running the 20v in CA
