CA18 for aw11
has any one heard of this swap done before? ive seen them done on ae86's but i was hoping it was somewhat possible for an mk1 mr2. i want to do this swap because
1: ive seen a mk1 mr2 supercharger attach to a ca18, which i like more for broader power band 2: its lighter than the 3sgte which wont impair handling 3 arts are pretty cheap 4: its different but if theres not enough information on putting in a ca18 or (doubtfully) a conversion kit then ill for sure go for the kickass 3sgte, hopefully a kit comes out for that soon quick question if there are any 3sgte aw11 owners reading, after the swap did you notice a huge difference in handling? im sure the back end mustve felt a little heavier |

CA18 makes 91 hp
CA18DE Makes 131 hp CA18DET Produces 166hp 4AGE 20V swap produces 160hp, Bolts straight in, use the same tranny and be better on gas and insurance not being turbo and lower capacity. 3SGTE Up to 250ish Stock. If you were going to go to the trouble of fabbing something up, take the extra 80hp of the 3SGTE despite the slight weight difference. |

^ What he said at 1:30 am
![]() I did a 3sge swap and there is more weight back there yes but I just adjusted the handling and driving style I had and used the extra torque to throw the backend around a lot more, it hold slides so much better now and I get a lot of comments about how it just pulls from almost any revs rather than bogging like it used to, with a turbo matched it would kick a$$ but I'm struggling to get that together with everything at the moment. Still an awesome little devil car though. |

Yeah, the 20v 4age is proven, it works, and it works well. I'd just go that route.

just always on the look out for alternatives! but with these points presented to me, the ca18 probablly isnt the best choice. i also didnt know the 4age bolts straight in and produces 160 stock. i also hear they make a supercharger for a 4ag (goodie gum drops). the 4age might not be a bad idea if im looking for power and commute but ill keep my eyes set on the 3s, thanks for the being informative as to why i was incorrect rather than just shoot the idea down (dtmpower cough*)

^ Your car currently has a 4AGE (assuming you have a Mk1), there where a couple of different versions through out the years with the final one being the Black top, the Silver Top is second to Last but I believe is easier to get and possibly some other reasons.
the 4AGZE has less power than these engines except for the very last rev which only has 8hp more. You may notice a lot of people here shoot ideas down, this isnt because they wouldnt love to see it, its just because a lot of people come on here and suggest ideas that just never happen (turbo Beams for most part, straight six, v8's, other car engines etc etc) Toyota tend to have an engine for what most people want to get out of their MR2's. |
