How?

So i just replaced a vacuum line in my AW11 (orange tube in image below).

Basically the tube was there throughout the whole day of driving and for the past 3 months it has also been there. Then all of a sudden after doing highway speeds my car decided it didn't like the tube and it magically disappeared from the engine compartment.

My car proceeded to lose most of its power range from this major vacuum leakage and caught my concern rather fast, pulled over to have a peak and noticed it was nowhere to be found. 97 cents worth of tube later, problem solved.

Has anyone had this problem in the past? How is it possible for this tube to completely disconnect from both sides and vanish from the engine compartment? It's beyond me and just wanted to see about any other similar experiences some of you may have had.

I had them dry rot and crack and leak but never fall off. Just make sure you are using the right size I guess. I replaced a bunch of them but there are still a few that I should replace before long.

More seriously, perhaps some part of your EGR system is faulty and allowed exhaust gases through a valve in error . . . blowing out your vacuum line.

If you can legally get away with it, unplug, and dump the whole system.

Thanks for the info Jackstand.

I can't remove the egr system for a couple more years, car has to be 25 or older out here to pass inspection with just a safety check. Mine had passed about three months ago and i still have about 4 years til i can get away with that.

My auto tech friend had said the same thing actually about a clog in the egr system popping it off from built up back pressure in the system. Hopefully it was in that tube that blew off seeing as it disconnected from both sides. I haven't had any problems since replacing it. EGR parts are by no means cheap either so i guess i'll just start by replacing all the vacuum lines little by little to start and take it from there.

I have an EGR setup for an SC sitting in my parts too valuable to throw away.

Lemme see . . . . I have the two diaphrams, one heavy duty, one lighter and all of the piping except where its cut off where it bolts into the exhaust manifold.

If interested, I can send you a picture.

I had same problem. Cat clogged causing the egr to get stuck open, causing hot exhaust to come through the vacuum lines, and would actually burn the tube completely off.
