Engine Mod Question

I have an 87 Stock 4AGE engine and I was curious as to what would be the best way to increase HP without doing an engine swap. I'm considering going with an ITB kit, but I'm not sure how a turbo or a supercharger would compare to that. Thanks for any advice.

Exhaust and intake, good oil and fix any broken sensors and unplugged vacuum lines. Other than that it requires a bit of work to get more hp.

Forced induction will always beat N.A.

All other factors being equal: engine wear, state of tune, basic performance modifications performed, etc.

i all was vote nitrous (you guys tend to not consider it) big gains wene its on and runs and drives like stock wene its off so you still get the good mpg and unlike turbo or sc it not hard on the motor all the time its proven that it does not put anymore were on the motor then when you beet on it and hp on demand you can get every thing you need to spray a 50-150 wet for less than 400$ Nitrous Oxide Systems (NOS) 07004NOS - NOS Sniper Nitrous Systems – SummitRacing.com this is the same kit i run and i have installed similar kits and every one have been happy with nitrous and later you can build on it (if you wont more) http://www.mr2.com/forums/images/attach/jpg.gif

There is a reason I don't recommend nitrous, ongoing costs and practicality. Its fine if all you are doing is wanting horsepower for the strip or to drag off your friends or something but its limited in what it can do. At an autocross event or something you do several longer runs with tight turns its impractical to use nitrous on a course like that you will run out very quickly.

Also some clubs (mines one) will not let nitrous onto the track as its a highly pressured gas which is also an oxidant, bad things if you rupture a line, unlike fuel it won't stop if you kill the power which means you can get a big runaway fire, on the strip help is at hand quickly but at the track there are still other cars racing and possibly a long distance for the track officials to come TRY put it out should it go up, you will also find the fire people are often volunteers so may not know what to do to put it out the main concern is the driver not the car as well so your car may burn for a bit until your out.

Just something to think about, I've been on fire in my car its not a nice experience and I was in the middle of nowhere and it happened out of the blue. Its not that nitrous is really dangerous just it COULD be and given the broad range of uses that people use their 2's for I don't just instantly recommend nitrous to them. Not bashing just making a long valid point about the use of pressurised gas that should be considered before slapping it on.

Why I went SC instead of N.O.S.

A lot of my reasons were psychological . . . . knowing what I would do and feel in a given situation.

If the N.O.S. melted my rings and pistons, and spark plugs I'd feel bad.

If I had the bottle turned off, and a Honda powned me . .. . I'd feel bad.

If I ran out of N.O.S. while powning a Honda, and the Honda then powned me instead . . . I'd feel bad.

If I installed an automatic bottle valve opener, and a Honda powned me while it was opening . . . . I'd feel bad.

If I had a N.O.S., I'd never want it turned off. Flooring it and getting a lame response with the N.O.S. turned off would not be any fun.

Yes but refer to my last post to see why you shouldn't just leap to nitrous as a hp boost.
