4AGZE Vacuum lines and VSV's
JDM 4AGZE going into an 86 NA using harness, distributor, etc. from an 88 SC that had a JDM in it... (confused yet?)
I need some help with the vacuum line routing and which VSV is which and how the BVSV is connected. I have the BGB (which is of little help when starting from scratch) and the label from the engine cover. Please note that the BGB calls out an EGR system which this motor does not have. Questions - What lines go where from the BVSV (it's blue and screwed into the coolant connection that bolts to the top of the tranny. The label shows an "E", "R" and "P" port on the throttle body. Can someone tell me where or which ones these are? I have a double VSV (red, blue) on the fender. Are VSV's interchangeable and coded by color? Thanks in advance for any help I can get. Regards, Rob |

Countersteer, you must not be from Kalifornia.
You really need two or three VSV's in your rig. The important one is mounted on the firewall and sits between an outlet on intake manifold and the fuel pressure regulator. Have this one up and running. If you have your Air Bypass Valve installed and working, there's a blue VSV between the j pipe the throttle body sits on, and the ABV. Its blue and bolts on the rear side of the SC. The third important VSV sits near the thermotstat cluster. Its connects the carbon canister to the TB. I'm not sure which TB outlet you use, but some of them vent above the TB butterfly valve, and some below it. Use the one that vents above it. There might be one or two more VSV's but they have to do with AC and polution stuff that is not in my car anymore. |

The one to the fuel pressure regulator can be hooked straight to a port on the intake, therefore bypassing that vsv....the abv one can also be bypassed by doing what is referred to as the abv mod, if you bypass the fuel pressure reg VSV, "T" into the vac line you use to connect the fuel press reg to the intake....loop the VTV lines(A) back to the VSV here are some pics
:before STOCK ![]() after, if you use the VSV for fuel press reg ![]() If you BYPASS the fuel press reg: ![]() The only reason to loop the VTV back to the vsv is for safe keeping, if you chose to remove it or its not there ...no problem..... p.s.....pass emissions either way...at least here in Dallas Tx....hope this helps |

Thanks Jackstand and Super (yes, got the PM, THANKS)... One more question... The VSV for the ABV is blue. Can you tell me the color for the VSV to the Fuel Pressure regulator and the color for the VSV for the EGR valve? Just want to make sure... Thanks a lot for your help. This will have me all set!!!

The other two VSV are bakelite brown. The firewall mounted FPR unit has a flow through design with air outlets at either end of the cylinder.
My AFM mounted VSV is blue. Don't get hung up on colors. You could junkyard hunt a VSV from an 80's or 90's japanese manufactured car . . . it if it had the same resistance, and operation of opening or closing with current applied they'd work just fine. You might have to change connectors though. VSV's are just electromagnetically switched air valves. |

The vsv for the fuel pressure reg appears to be brownish red....and the only one for the egr is a blue one atop of the afm.....
here is the one for fuel press reg: ![]() and one for the egr:the top or left vac line leads to a metal vac line(top one) then back to a rubber line to the egr vm, then to the egr.... ![]() |
