Time for Cams, Quick question

Well I now have a stock rebuilt 85 N/A 4age and rebuilt tranny to go with it. I have been looking at cams for a while and what I think I'm looking for is a cam with the most amount of duration which will not require any other mods. And also, I need a clear answer on this....With a camshaft change do I need to adjust my shims? Is it possible to purchase cams that I can litterally just replace only the cams. I'v read many posts on many forums that say the webb 577 grind, 252 degreese Works with factory injection or carburetors, but do I need to readjust shims????

If anyone can answer my question that would be great, or suggest a cam that could fill my needs.

Thanks

You could get fantastically lucky and not have to adjust your valves.

If it were me, I'd plan on having to adjust them.

I've heard of people getting certain grinds from them and dropping them straight in.

there is no valve adjustment..... however, the "adjustment" is replacing the shims..... and it HAS to be done any time you swap cams... even stock for stock.... otherwise you run a big risk of spitting a shim and saying good bye to your head & cam(s).

I would guess smaller than 272 and you'd be ok on the stock computer if you played with timing and got some adjustable gears.

hmm, uh oh... I never touched anything other than the cams when I swapped my redtop cams for stock bluetops. Never any issues tho!

Like Toyotaspeed and Jackstand noted, there are no short cuts.

Do it per Specs or go home.
