this just a post of my new very low budget build i thought i would post it sens there's not a lot of 4agte build posted here so im just looking for opinions and or suggestions im going to post pics and progress as i go (its going to be long)
im starting with a early 7rib 4agze block this is the block after i cleaned and painted it (this is the color the car is getting painted too) http://www.mhttp://www.mr2.com/forum...attach/jpg.gif im using a crank with 40mm journals and rods with 18mm wrist pins and a set of 9.4-1 pistons (because i have a good set laying around) i have a good pair of 8.0-1 4agze pistons but i do not have a good set of 20mm wrist pin rods |

I've got a set of 4 low mileage 4agze pistons and the 20 mm wrist pins laying around. At a guess, I'd say they have around 10 to 20k miles on them.
My problem with the pistons was that the block was too worn for the factory original sized 81mm pistons. That would leave you with needing some GZE rods. PM me if interested, I have trouble posting photos here. |

I haven't seen anything as new and unexpected in many years of cruising these forums as . . .. . . . moving the radiator to the rear trunk.
It would save some weight, and reduce the fill capacity of coolant. But the car's handling would suffer immensely. You'd have to cut holes in the trunk to create air flow for the radiator. There are quite a few threads on weight reduction on this forum. Do some searches and see what's been posted. |

the rad in the rear trunk im going to place it face down with the fans pulling and then run a duct to draw the air in and with screen in it to keep road dibree out of it and balance is some thing im not worried about because its for dragging and summer night driving(screwing around) there is to much wight in the back ive learned this the hard way ive tryed header springs and less power but still drives the @ss end down to hard any ways ill post pics of rad mod

Pitch those 20 lb headlights?
My Project Drag Car was hit in the front when I got it. I SawZall'd off the entire front end down to the frame just in front of the suspension wheel mounts. Moved the rad against the front firewall and pitched the entire headlight assemblies. I molded the headlight covers to the hood.
I had to reinf the fenders to hold the bumper skin and used a super lightweight spoiler under the bumper. Dumping the 20lb front bumper reinforcement was a a drag strip only move, and not recommened if you are a street cruiser. Like Jackstand indicated the reduced weight did make a big difference.! |

Don, the exhaust is directly under the rear trunk. Not only would you have the problem of hot air rising into the trunk, but you'd have radiant heat (infrared) blazing off the exhaust onto the radiator.
I managed to remove about 250 lbs from my car. And one of the stupider things I did was remove the heat shield that sits on top of the Cat. and muffler. Without it, the trunk got so hot, that anything left in the trunk got "browned". So I got some real thin aluminum sheet metal pieces, and sandwiched a layer of fiberglass between them. And screwed them down. Its was still a weight savings in the end though. |
