rebuild 4age help

Well I'm rebuilding the 4age off my MKI and so far its going well, I need help with parts and suggestions. This is what I have so far, my whole 4a is completely disassembled, I got new pistons with .20 bore over, and I want to replace everything as for clutch, fly wheel and any other suggested parts that should be changed before re assembling it and putting it back in the MKI. So what kind of clutch and flywheel would you guys recomend. I was looking at an OEM Exedy clutch with a fidanza fly wheel, but I heard fidanza is no good, any body experience with fidanza? Also any other parts that I should change before popping the motor back in?

i like the exedy organics stage 1 clutch its just a little quicker gripping and a little less of that springy feeling thats makes the car seem all slow

I don't recommend aluminum flywheels.... find a chromoly or just use a standard 200mm....

Fidanza has problems with their ring gears staying attached..... also, had a friends Saturn back the pressure plate bolts off due to heat expansion variances between the steel and aluminum.... he lost 100% usage of his clutch. Even though the Fidanza had lasted a few years (and the clutch/pp still looked fine) we went back to a stock... been a few years since and it's still perfectly fine.

I've had a friend with his built "2"tge break the ring gear off 3 times... Fidanza won't even warranty them anymore and claims "there's a problem with his car" (yeah... it has 4 times the original power, high compression, and a heavy duty starter to get it going... apparently that means "problem")


plus that's $200 or so you could put towards cams or something useful

Sweet, I'll take a look in a bit, and yeah I had heard fidanza was no good. Yeah I want to do the whole motore including the head. For cams I'm thinking HKS, any insight?

i think i have an act flywheel on my eclipse and pushing 350ish hp there is no problem at all. maybe fidanza just sucks really badly!

it isn't an issue of the amount of HP..... it's the fact that fidanza uses a steel wheel pressed onto an aluminum flywheel.... which have different heat expansion rates, and the starter ring gears can easily come off

oh yea i see what your saying..i jsut saw u were saying about 4 times the hp...iir mine had a bolt on starter ring. maybe look for something like that if fidanza is pressed on. the quicker rev power is pretty sweet, look to the other companies and hte forums to see if theres problems with those

Are you going to be doing a complete internal rebuild? I'm looking for a place online to buy pistons and valves and such, if you know anywhere.

that bore's what i had done to mine. i just went with a CarQuest clutch, and had my original flywheel resurfaced. let me know how your starter functions after the install, and any problems you have with fuel delivery

let's see... i sent my motor in for the rebuild in july... got it back mid september, and fired it up on wednesday. runs like a dream. other than the fact that i have to manually add fuel through the plenum. for some reason, my computer won't tell the injectors to fire. and after the install, my starter would only make contact with the flywheel, not spin it. i pulled it, tested it twice, and it spun just fine. yet, my auto shop teacher told me to replace it. so i did. blew $60 because the crank needed to be turned to get the flywheel into the correct position, which was my original idea

haha yea feb is definatly soon!....i always underestimate these times...my head gasket replacement will probably be done by then too! lol stupid moneys
