Air Filter Types
I am looking into getting a cone filter for my 85' MR2. Right now it has a K&N filter the same size as the stock filter, but I would like to squeeze some more hp out of the engine. I was looking at two types of filters one being the K&N style cone filter with the oiled gauze, and the other being the HKS style filter with the foam, dome shaped filter. What are your opinions on both of these? What are the differences in noise, performance, and ease of cleaning? Thanks for the help.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt you'll even notice any power gain between the two filters, you could also buy a AEM dryflow filter, if they made one that fit's your car.

I have been doing a little research and this is what I have found.
Oiled Gauze (K&N Type) Pros- Flows better Cons- Lets more particles through, harder to clean Oiled Foam (HKS Type) Pros- Filters Better, Easy to clean Cons- Less flow, less hp gains Could someone please tell me if this is correct or not. Thanks |

potato, potatoe, its all the same.
the only thing youll notice is a slight whistle at 4000 rpm. it will NOT cut any time off the 1/4 mile, it will not filter any better, itll just cost more. just my .02USD |

dome shaped is shorter so if your just adding it to the afm it won't sit directly under the vent.

After I moved the battery to the trunk I made my own intake. Sounds great when you really get on the gas. You can hear it sucking up a ton of air!!

Actually its electrical tape, the duct was cracked and ripped so I reconfigured the position of ducts, filter, and AFM. Did not have the right coupler with me since I was at work. The tape was just until I got home. Not there anymore!! Since then I got new 90* coupler from the AFM to the ducting.
