Forged rods?

I'm in the market to buy some forged rods for my MKI and I was hoping that I could find someone that had a set that they weren't using???? I'm rebuilding a ZE, twincharging it and I want rods that'll hold up past 400 HP. I have the stock ones and I was told that they were good for 200 but not 400.
Any help would be apreciated. Thanks!!!

As Feral said - If I ever decide to go rebuild my turbo 4a project, I'm just going to use the stock GZE rods that I had shotpeened and balanced w/ARP studs. If you're wanting to run high revvs, say 9k+ you should look at ordering a forged crank and rods, but unless you want to spin the piss out of it, stockers will do ya just fine.

i use stock rods with my 4agte, though it's only doing around the 200hp mark at the moment.

i have seen reference to stock rods used with high rpm too. they be strong fookers..

d962r and I have been trying to figure out exactly what will work and what wont. It sounds like the strongest rods used in any 4a platform from Toyota are definately the early USDM 4agze, with the ae111's appearing to be smaller, though I haven't done a lot of measuring - definately bigger than the NA, and extremly robust compared to the blacktop 20v. I know that Bill Sherwood has done some testing and has on occasion had no problem revving a stock-ish bottom end to 9k, but I wouldn't do it for any kind of enduro or severe use unless you want to risk having a rod come through the firewall and poke ya in the arse. Vince and I were talking about using a formula atlantic crank and rods so it would be stable and with the right pistons be able to maintain 10 or 11k so we can get the most response and boost out of the 4a that we can. I know our initial plans have changed a lot, but I spent a good bit of time trying to plan out a 500hp+ 4a, which is where the high revs would really help with trying to keep the turbo spun up - 30+# boost takes a big turbo, and will have piss poor drivability, but will be oh so fun when it takes off. Now just need to figure out how to keep the head from walking, and the cylinders from distorting. I'm tempted just to try to source a 503e and forget about the 4a. Regardless, my plans for my '86 are currently a stock gze bottom end with the shotpeened and balanced rods, and a full dynamic balancing but I'm only gonna run 8k max with an 8.5:1 bottom end.

As to the original question, I think that paradise racing should have no problem getting you carillo rods if you want to spend the money. TRD also had some (and I think those were made by carillo). You can custom order something from Scat Performance, including cranks, but it will cost ya. I would just give the stock rods some love and go from there. If you're shooting for those big numbers, you're probably going to pop a motor anyway, so you'll get a chance to find out what is the weakest link and work from there.

Do a search for Bob Norwood's salt flats MR2 project, he used a 20V base engine in a MK2 and made over 600hp with it. If I remember correctly he had the block and head modified to use larger head studs to keep the head from separating at high boost.
