Car instalation kit for MK1
Yes first post but any who. I checked the sticky with no luck. So, what is the installation kit that I need to install a single din cd player in to my '88 MK1. Or do I need to get one of the universal single din pocket and install that to the factory bracket with the cd player to take up the space? Pretty much everywhere I turn doesn't have a kit. Appreciate the help

not sure what you mean about kit, i had to take an off the shelf stereo and then wire it to the harness from the OEM. did it while at work haha. all in all it wasn't very hard. look into the BGB and you can find it.

The installation kit is the plastics that are around the aftermarket radio or just a pocket to take up the rest of the space. The wire harness I can do without considering I'm going to use amps just because they are laying around. So everything is going to get spliced and soldered.

the only other option is to find someone who is parting out a car and buy the radio surround plastic for a single din or do the pocket.

I left mine open. I had to use toggle switches for other things and I mounted them above the radio. Then inspection came up and I hid the switches and havent put the bracket back in and I just have an empty space. You dont need an "installation kit" you can get by without it if you make your own brackets.

Hey mr3, What do you have the troggles for? Lights, N2O, manual choke, or something else? If you don't want to answer it's all good ![]() |

When I got it, it kept blowing the tail light fuse and I couldnt find where it was shorting so I just wired the running lights and gauge lights to a toggle and ran the wire to the lights myself. Works flawlessly but to some it's not the best solution but to me it was the best thing I could do at the time and it works.

Ahh, ok. Sounds like what my friend's Jetta kept doing. But it was her brakes that kept blowing the fused. Found out after removing all the bulbs that one of them had a double filament shoved in to the socket. Put the right light bulb in, a single filament, and everything worked out. XD

I know that I am supposed to mount subs as far as possible but I'm going to mount two 10" Kickers subs behind the seats. When I get it all done I'll take pictures. The plan is to reverse mount the subs on some MDF which is going to be bolted to the firewall under the carpet. I've went ahead and ordered Infinity Kappa 3.5" and 4" speakers and wire my 4 channel amp up to them. Even tho The head unit should take care of them. I actually took wires out of the harness for the head unit so it won't take up space.

Mmk, Well the stereo system is installed. I've got an Alpine HU, Infinity Kappa speakers all around, Rockford Fosgate Punch 700x running the speakers, Kickers ten inch red subs, and an Alpine 400w D amp on the subs. It sounds like total crap because I forgot to take in account that the carpet being in between the subs and MDF. So it sounds like ping pong balls bouncing everywhere in the car when the subs try to hit. I just need to make some rings to space out the subs. So I have them turned off. Other than that. It's still work in progress

This is what I did on my Mazda P5. I'll probably do the same to my mister 2:
![]() The carbon fiber sheet was about $25 for 11x10. It will match my shift boot in my mr2. Last edited by stu4u3; 09-17-2009 at 01:23 PM.. |

That's an interesting set up. How did you mount the amps? Do the seats still recline far enough? sorry for all the questions. Overall i like it. ![]() |

The amps right now are mounted with rings. Basically I used upholstery rings that are used to put seats together, and clipped the amps to the carpet. There wasn't really a point for me to put MDF behind the carpet to mount the amps down considering that they won't vibrate. The seats recline far enough for me to be comfy still. I'm 6'1" and I like to drive with my back straight up. I get sleepy when the seats are reclined even a tad bit. Yes, I know I'm weird. |
