Infiniti speakers...

Any thoughts on these Infiniti speakers for a MK1 front? Anything better in that price range?

See:

INFINITY REFERENCE 4032CF 4" 2-WAY CAR AUDIO SPEAKERS - eBay (item 350215797571 end time Nov-16-09 18:24:30 PST)

or how about some Pioneer speakers such as:

PIONEER TS-D402P 4" AUDIO SPEAKERS 4 INCHES 220W +FREE - eBay (item 290354823772 end time Nov-28-09 13:22:13 PST)

I have Infinity Kappa speakers in my car, and they sound a lot better than any Pioneer speakers (I've had the And E series from pioneer to)

But still the best speakers I've heard so far are the ones from Polk Audio.
If you can afford the MM series, you won't regret it! This is by far the best buy you can get at a cheap price.

There does not appear to be any "MM" series round 4" speakers from Polk that would fit a MK1, moreover, they cost twice as much as the speakers I referenced.

I personally love infiniti speakers (have been using them for the last 10 to 15 years). Although I prefer the Kappa Series, Reference Serier are still good.

You can get them cheaper though then what they are asking on Ebay..

THANKS for the tip, much better price at the site you recommended (assuming the price they are quoting is for TWO speakers).

I looked at the Kappa series speakers ( Car Audio Video - Car Subwoofers - Car Speakers and Amplifiers - Search ) and they appear to all be all 2 ohm and I need 4 ohm to make my amp happy. The "Reference" series has a 4 ohm set.

Yeah, that should be for a pair. I've ordered from them before and all the normal speakers have always been pairs. Subs were individual except in combo setups.

Basically everything is how the manufacture packaged it. AFAIK, Infinity and many others only package and sell in pairs except for subs.

I actually prefer the reference series to the kappa because of the kappa's harshness. The reference is more mellow and in my opinion a more realistic speaker where as the tweeters of the kappa tend to blast the piss out of my ear drums. I however will say that for the $ the kappa is a good speaker. Polk's are great, boston acoustic is another nice car brand.

I actually just picked up a set of phoenix gold components. Have not yet installed them, but am uber excited. Working on saving up some $ for a new head unit.

Yeah, I've always been a fan of Polk's too and MB Quart for that matter.

I've never personally had a problem with the Kappa tweeters being too harsh but at the same time, I have always used EQ's/crossovers that had adjustable level outputs so I could tailer each freq. range to my liking.

I've been out of the whole stereo thing for a while now so I cant really give the best/honest oppinion on the modern stuff....

Look at the polk DB series. It will give you good sound for little money. But I'm sure you'll be satisfied with Infinity speakers too. Both give great sound for very little money

MB Quart! That was the other one I couldn't think of.

I've been out of the game for a while too. Last time I paid attention to the car stereo world, Infinity just released the Kappas.... It's been a while.

The Kappa componants came with a decent crossover, the issue I had was I was running the tweeters at -8 or 9dB to balance them out and at times they would still sound shrill. I have sensitive ears though and high frequencys bug me if they're not seriously in check. Most people who listen to my setup agree that it's really laid back, but that's how I like it.
