94+, they add an updated look, and somehow make the rear look wider.

Just bought a 93 MR2 for a daily driver. Probably the best daily driver I will ever own. I have an awesome RX-8 but It only gets 16MPG. I am new here so please do not flame. I will just come out and say I do not know much about the car but I am wanting to put it back to showroom condition. How hard is it to put '94 "style" tail lights in my 93? Will they just bolt on with a new center garnish plate? What about the lock? Can you set up your trunk for remote release? And where do I get a center garnish that I can paint that will work with the lights? Thanks for your help.

I actually am a big fan of the 93 tails that are on my car. I just hate the stock "honeycomb" center piece on the 93's. I just cannot stand the look of the 94+ tails nor the rectangle cut outs for the reverse lights. I think the car shoud be a lot cleaner in the back. No I could not take apart my tail lights, so you have to tint them from the outside. You also MUST reseal the edges all the way around the tail light lense or water will get inside, I used black silicone for this. I tinted them with VHT Niteshades, LIGHT coat after LIGHT coat, doing all parts at the same time to make sure I got even tinting. VHT Niteshades runs VERY EASILY. I slightly warmed the lights to make the VHT dry a little faster, but not much, BARELY warm to the touch - just used a hair dryer for a few seconds right before spraying - NOT to dry it afterwards... After I got the desired tinting I used a can of Krylon clear and used the entire can on the lights, it was on the order of 4 coats. I thought about buffing them but they actually turned out pretty darn smooth so I decided not to mess with it. There are other pics and videos on the website and also older pics on carpron (search for jeremy mr2) if you want more looks. I spent little over 3 days doing the lights. I was pretty meticulous.... Also I recommend checking fitment as I had to file a few edges on the backs of the lights to get it to fit flush. Also I painted the backs black as they come silver and it is easily seem between the cracks. |

Take a look at this Before and After: I kind of like the after look. And to whoever's GREAT car this is...sorry for the Photohacked "After" version. It was just an eay one modify.
Before ![]() After ![]() That is kind of the look I want. I know I have to have reverse lights. I just like them where they are on the 93 tails. |

Decisions decisions...I love the pre 94 tails, but now I want to go with the 94/91 combo and forget the reverse lights all together.
