Front bumper wind deflector???
hey guys, I think I saw somebody talking about Front bumper wind deflector for the mk2's here in the forums. I think it is to deflect the wind away from the front tires so when you're driving on the highway you don't get blown around as much. I think it's on the mr2's from the late 90's but I'm not sure. Does anybody know about these? Maybe give me a lil hand. Thanks guys.

Hmm, good thing I have a pair. I had two sets and sold one on the other board at no profit, lol. Eh, I guess I'll install them as soon as I get my two...

The "Speed Flaps", as they're called, only go on the front of the front wheels. They only came as a pair, not a full set like mud flaps. A lot of new cars have them today if you're keen to notice things like that. It diverts air from the front wheel well because apparently, that's where all the turbulence is pre-side skirt.

I got in on a group buy that Phoenix had for them and I paid like $90 after shipping or something like that and I bought 2 pairs planning on selling a set at a profit. But, not being as businessminded as I thought I was, I was little a strapped for cash and just sold the damn thing at the same price I paid for it. Go figure. At least it's on an MR2 that sees the track a lot so it'll be put to good use

so whats the difference between speed flaps and mud flaps I saw it on a 93 and couldn't tell a difference between the ones I have seen online, also it reduces turbulence pre-sideskirts so do sideskirts act almost as effectively reducing turbulence?

Mudflaps catch mud.
Speedflaps redirect air. And the speed flaps are placed in front of the tires, while mudflaps are behind tires. |

^ Correct.
And properly designed sideskirts DO have an aerodynamic effect as well as being aesthetically pleasing |
