No no no
One big reason why Lamborghini stopped making lambo doors was because it was unsafe. People got stuck inside cars when the car flipped upside down. It's basically a death trap. Firefighters wouldn't know how to save you with the jaws of life if you had lambo doors. Same as a roll cage. Roll cages are fine for people wearing helmets while driving. Put a roll cage in a car with no padding on a street vehicle and you'll end up BONKERS with a cracked opened head if you were to hit your head on one of those steel pipes. Just like anything, think about safety before you mod. Don't take out your steering wheel with the air bag for a metal wheel. The air bag can save your life. Sorry, I rant when i hear things like this.

Well, I really hate to admit to this but I voted yes. Hear me out!
I have but one condition I would like to add to my yes vote. If you are going to do it go all out! I saw a guy with a supra at a car show that had his done right! First the handles were shaved. then he had a key fob that operated both the left and the right doors with seperate buttons. The doors would open and lift automatically. Once inside there were two buttons in the car he could push that would lower and shut the doors automatically. This was by far the baddest setup I have ever seen! I don't know where the guy got it or if he made it himself but it was sweet! If you don't do it that way then don't bother because the other way wears out quickly and you are stuck looking like a moron climbing in and out while trying to lift a door! |

Killer Airbags
there have been cases where the airbag deploys and causes greater damage than if the airbag wasn't there. People end up with ripped skin, fracture bones, fractured noses due to the rough canvas-like surface from the airbags and force which they deploy. |

There's a reason why airbags are called SRS (Supplemental Restraint Systems). They are only an added cushion for an impact from a head-on type collision. Any other direction and they are useless and potentially harmful or fatal. And they are only supplemental to proper seatbelt usage, they provide virtually no protection on their own.
Case in point: I flipped my last car while it was doing about 70MPH and flew into a ditch on the roof. I was wearing my seatbelt properly and the airbag didn't deploy, thankfully, because it wouldn't have done anything besides probably hurt me. I walked away with out even a scratch. Proper seatbelt usage and you shouldn't have to worry about impacting anything in your car, even in a violent flip like mine. So unpadded roll cages and sftermarket steering wheels with no airbag are not dangerous on their own (although I'd never have a rollcage without padding), but they can become a source of danger in the presence of an idiot. |
