My MKII Restoration
Just wanting to post progress on my MKII restoration, work will probibly go slow because I'm a poor college student…well I guess I’ll start with some background on the car. I bought her with a blown 5SFE, the body looked good, except for some minor accident damage. The previous owner told me that a minivan rolled up the driver’s side in a parking lot, which was consistant with the body damage. So enough with the chit-chat…here’s some pics
Before the work began ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I don’t really have any pictures of the following… fixing the weld flange along the bottom of the rockers, and fixing the dents on the body. Once the body work was done, I primed the car, but was too anxious, and forgot to reduce the primer because my air cap was too small for PPG’s specs, so I spent 7 hours hand sanding a rough car the next day. Before spraying the chassis ![]() I then resprayed the chassis, and this is where she stands as of today: ![]() ![]() |

Looks like so much fun. I would do that if I had the money. So I assume you're swapping in a 3SGTE?

Nice man. I remember when this thing was at the shop for awhile, it's a shame the motor blew. At least now you can focus on the body. We need to get togther when mines done. I need to find a camera and take some pics of my E153 trans. apart (well actucally it's almost back together).

Damn that's awesome! Look at how smooth that looks! Are you going to repaint it back to Nautical Blue? I want to get into autobody one day.

Yeah, the only rust I havn't had a chance to get to yet are the cable brackets on the underbody, the front crossmember, and all of the suspension parts (which i'll powdercoat myself and install new PU bushing ) Gotta go to work, I'll post some more pics tonight. |

Why do you want to reseal? Is it leaking? If not I wouldn't **** with it, the FIPG material they use to seal those bastards hangs on for all its worth. It's hard to believe they would ever start leaking lol.. Plus once you get all the bolts off which are all lock-tighted on, there isn't a slot to pry the case so you have to hammer a flat blade into some parts and it makes gashes in sealing surface of the case. The sealer will fill it in, but lets just say I didn't feel comfortable having to do that. They weren't meant to come apart lol. Last edited by 2fast4u; 05-28-2009 at 10:02 PM.. |

Well, she's deffiently leaking and it seems to accumulate at the bottom (duh), but I dont see any leakage near shaft seals. Plus the, might as well do it, attitude. The guy who worked on my car at your shop said that one of the seals were cracked. I took both of them out, checked for cracks, but nothing. So idk
