Paint!
Okay, so the paint I've been using to coat the panels isn't going to work out for a topcoat. Beautiful sealer, but now I'll need an actual primer and paint, and a clearcoat. (do'h!)
So, I need some information: 1) typically, how many coats of primer does one shoot before moving on to paint? I figure I'll have to do a good sanding between coats to keep it smooth, and a solid block sanding to make sure everything is perfect before I shoot the paint, but how many coats should I be shooting for? I'd be looking for a high-build, as the sealer isn't entirely smooth, so I'll be needing something that can fill in small scratches and the like. what I'm *really* looking for is something solid, something that I don't have to worry about flaking or peeling. The sealer I used is a two-part epoxy from SPI, some of the best stuff out there... so I'm not worried about that. What do you guys recommend for a primer? Anything I can get locally? I'd love to shoot the first coat tuesday afternoon. 2) onto paint. Does it matter? I'm not real picky on this one, I want a flat-ish black. 3) clearcoat- I'm thinking of doing 2 coats of a clear- I want the toughest clear I can get my hands on. Then, I wanted to do a third coat of a clear with some sort of flattener agent mixed in- something that makes the clear NOT glossy. The end effect there is a sort of a finish thats referred to as satin; not flat and not gloss, reflects light but refracts it, so theres no image-reflection. Any input here is welcome, and I know discussions on this can go on for weeks, but question (1) is of most importance right now! |
