I think there's 8 holes under the base piece, 10mm size. Like to see a pic of the trunk lid showing the locations. Easy enough to get them mig welded no doubt, but probably one of the reasons a lot of guys stay away from fitting the later model wings, but it's really no big deal. Plus, by only removing the base, just requires respraying the trunk lid..not the rear quarters, which can become a complication.

You don't have a pic of that car from the rear do you?.. see how he's done the curved ends. The hardest part is getting that right and leaving enough width to allow it to mount to the trunk lid ridgidly.
Possibly could simply make the 2 base pieces & keep it the way it is fitted stock, or glass them in and make the wing one piece.

Rear Wing..

So basically, if you have the skill you can take off the wing, install the newer ones and weld and mold and paint the car? Avoiding the 94 trunk all together?

basically yes.

Well mig welding any holes, grinding & filling, paint matching & spraying the trunk is probably a job left to a professional for a lot of people, but even so, not that expensive to have done.

The point I was making about the base pieces.. check the wing, the main upper section bolts to the base at the edges. Should I (or anyone else) fab up the two modified base pieces, then a mold could be made of them so anyone else can do the mod by simply 'bolting-on' those new pieces (after painting naturally). The other alternative is to simply glass those into the top wing permanently, then it's simply a custom job.

Rear Wing..

What about the area for the antenna? If you're taking off the whole 3-piece all together.

I'm not planning on removing the side pieces, that's the whole idea.

Should you want to do that to fit a 94+/98 wing, then you need to modify the antenna or weld up the hole..same as the other holes.

I chopped up a cracked wing to try this today. We'll see how hard it is to glass up and make pretty.

Oh I know, I was asking in case I get my hands on a 98 wing. Your idea is amazing though, I stare at the base and wish it was gone too.

Good stuff, toss a couple of pics up with your results.

I'm talking to a FG pro about the possibility of making a mould for the two base pieces (feet) so if anyone wants to follow the lead on this, an easy install would be available. I'm thinking maybe two optional approaches..

1 The 2 bases can be painted & simply bolt-on (same as stock) with no real need to mess with the wing.
2 The bases can be permanently epoxied on, fill & sand the join, paint and you have a smooth one piece wing.
well if it works out the way I'm thinking..any thoughts?

from a structural point of view I would say make the lower pieces separate from the main wing whether you plan to mass sell them or not.

When I still had my wing on I always closed the lid by holding the wing, I think if you went and epoxied the upper wing to the 2 bottom supports you my end up getting cracks along the joins form closing the trunk.

Should be pretty simple to remove the lower lip, cut it at the right place and fibreglass the ends of the 2 pieces.

If you want the 91 look w/o the lip just dump the whole wing completely and get a toms wing. you'll get the added benefit of hiding the quarter holes under the wing but still need to close the trunk holes

So far all I've done is remove big hunks of fibreglass. I vaguely thought of doing this with my old spoiler but thought it wouldn't make a difference. Seeing the pics posted here has intrigued me enough to at least try.

Damn, your certainly going full-on with that 2.
How did you go..any progress?, can't see a lot in that bottom pic.

BTW can get the two bases made up ok for anyone showing interest, otherwise it's cutting up the base & making your own.
I'm satisfied the end result is 110% better than stock.

Not really any progress but I figured out where the bolt holes can go and how I'm going to secure it. Going to cost me about $10 to do this cause I'm repainting the car anyway which is why I leapt on it so quick and hacked up an old spoiler. No loss to me if it doesn't pan out the spoiler was broken anyway on the bottom bit so I was happy to saw it off

And I am going ALL out on that car, rebuilt motor, new paint, hand made bits here and there so no biggie to weld/glass this up while I'm at it.

Sounds like the go for a bit of work and ten bucks.

Post up a pic of the holes if you get a chance.
I'm just working with a spare base I got ahold of.

Only 6 holes to deal with, not so bad.
Securing the wing to the trunk lid is a bit different.

I thought about this, And have seen it before, good luck with the project. If you plan on mass producing selling, shouldn't you just make the whole middle piece so that it is structurally sound? then they can just throw away their center piece and bolt on the new one, although there are still the holes...
