18x10.5 rim... weighs 8.5 lbs

nope, title is not a typo. 18" x 10.5" rim weighing 8.5 pounds!

Magnesium spokes with a full carbon barrel.... wow

http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46703

Quote:
they have passed every D.O.T. test including
(a) Radial Fatigue Standard test is 2.5 million cycles ours passed 5 million
(b) Cornering Fatigue 1.2 million cycles
(c) Radial impact testing this is the one that everyone worries about.. our wheel exceeded the imapct test by 60KG which has never been done before.
(d) was a repeat of A, B, C with low profile tire... this test not required by JWL or BSAU
(e) additional impact on unsupported inner flange without tire ( no wheel has ever passed this before our wheel)
(f) CASS test enviormental chamber designed to add age to the wheel
(g) repaet A, B, C on wheel post CASS test

after all testing the wheel was pressure tested to assure no micro cracks

This wheel compared to the Z06 wheel was twice as strong and held up better in impact testing then the Z06 wheels and we did it without the center spokes we also did all the same testing once again with only 1 support bolt in each spoke rather then the normal 2
People should realize how strong carbon fiber is... look at all the aircraft using this stuff.... unlike Alum this does not have a memory if you bend alum one time it looses more then half of its strenght..... I guess what I am saying after we tested these wheels, I do not like driving on any other wheels.

Cost? Currently between $2500-3000.... per wheel. Cost is expected to come down.... but most likely never dip below $1500... again per wheel.

And yes they're ugly as poop!

They may be ugly, but I'd have to say I'd sport them.

Well luckily they can color the cf for you... I would probably get it as dark as possible and then get the spokes in a dark dark color as well... perhaps just traditional mag heh

they were talking about selling just the cf barrels to companies too so they could just add on their own center sections haha not going to help bring costs down but might help in the looks department

I can't even imagine how nice wheels that light must feel hehe

they are supposed to be ridiculously strong so potholes should not be an issue. the only "worry" is that a cf barrel wouldn't bend... it would shatter

but something tells me if you hit something hard enough to shatter the wheel, your car is going to have enough other problems the wheel will be the least of your concerns

According to the test info, pot holes shouldn;t be a problem....
Ide def rock them. Although your not saving much weight ..... only if you run a METAL rim of the same size.

Running a 17 x 9 Aluminum wheel will weight the same as that wheel, if both had rubber.
I have to hand it to them though, thats one badass wheel.... i bet ya the rappers throw some spinnahz on it!

I was saying if they both had rubber on them...
The added weight in extra tire on the 18x10.5 will make up for the extra weight in metal on the 17in rim

Hell , My wheels with rubber will weigh less than those wrapped up....
My 16x8 weighs 12lbs without tires....

you do understand that a 315/35 18 on that wheel will have a ridiculous grip advantage over a 17x9 with a 255/40 17, right?
That wheel wasn't made for folks that can clear their brakes with 17's anyway.
just be in awe of the engineering marvel rhouck brought the forum, damnit!

lol something tells me that if you're paying $2500-3000 per wheel... they're offering it in more than just one size so comparing it to another wheel in a different size isn't fair... if you really *only* want a 16x8, I'm sure they will make you one in 16x8 and it will put your current rims to utter shame

a mag te37 in 18x8.5 is what like 13 pounds? 4.5 pounds lighter and 2 inches wider is ridiculous haha...

but yes as el paalo pointed out, this is for people running huge tire combos front and back with some BIG OL' honkin rotors that a 16" rim won't even come close to clearing... so if you NEED an 18" wheel, this would be quite the accomplishment.

the hope would be that in a couple of years, perhaps prices will drop below what they even expect... if they can dip down to the ~$1000 mark, they could become rather attainable

el paalo - do you know how much kodiak racing wheels are by chance? in a similar size preferably...

heh that's why I'm wondering what Kodiak wheels actually weigh... because it would have to significantly less than a set of te37s or ce28ns before I'd rock them over the volks
