I'm not certain what you mean by a "lazy speedometer". My speedometer does not register until I get to 15mph in actual speed. When passing radar speed signs by the local schools, my speedometer reads 5mph fast, i.e my speedometer reads 25mph and the radar signs read 20mph.
My speedometer is only off by 4mph at an actual speed of 40mph, assuming that the different radar signs are calibrated the same. When I took my instrument cluster out, I noticed that the metallic coating on the speedometer spring was flaking, thus sticking/creating friction. On the other hand, my tachometer when the outside ambient temperature is cold can stick at 3000rpms, later warm up and rev freely up to 4500rpms, and when finally warm freely go up to 7000rpms. I'm accustomed to the sound of my engine, so I'm not changing gears by what the tachometer reads, but by its sound. I'm assuming that there is an oil or grease which warms up with the engine and interior compartment, thus becoming more accurate. Assuming that a different instrument cluster is going to be more accurate may not be the case, though it is likely less expensive than having the speedometer calibrated. |
