how much does tire size affect road noise
I want to get new tires to replace my 17" ES100's soon. Now I absolutely HATE them for this reason: I recently just switched my 15" g-sports to my 17" ES100s on my 93 turbo. With the g-sports, I was able to have a normal cell phone conversation while cruising at 75mph on the highway. With the ES100's I have trouble having a convo at 40mph.
I was thinking about getting the Toyo Proxies as my next tire which I have heard is fairly quiet, but I'm wondering if a 17" tire will just *always* be that much louder than its 15 inch counterpart. I'd think about getting the g-sports in 17" form, however I'm not all that impressed with them although for the price they aren't bad for sure. Now, when I got the car it had the OEM Yoko A022's on the car...those were very impressive tires. |

that all depends on the side wall and thread. the bigger the side wall the more tire/air there is to cushin road noise.
I have both stock 15's and aftermarket 17's I been through countless tires and 15's are always quieter. as for the 17's your going to have to give up grip for quieter thread patterns. |

The Toyo Proxies are much quieter (and grippier) than the ES/100s. For all the good the ES/100s are for the price, they are noisy bastards.
Tire compound also affects road noise as does tire width too. |
