Greetings !
I have searched forum about this issue, but didn't find answer I was looking for ![]() So it's like this, when I bought my sw20, it had 17'' wheels all around with 215/45/17 tyres... and in the spirit of the project itself I need new tyres... I heard that mr's MUST have different tire width.... the rims are 17'' and 7.5J My questions are as following : 1.) With the width difference in mind, would 215 on the front and 225 on the rear work? how would 225 look ona a 7.5J rim? 2.) Clearence issue... how would 45 tire on a 17'' rim fit, because with that setup I noticed that in front is very litlle space left betwen tire and the round plate on the shocks that hold the spring (I don't know the english expresion ) ??Thank you! Cheers! |

You mean the spring perch. Yes, 215/45-17s are hit and miss, it may work on some tire brands but not on others, also depends on your wheel offset - use 215/40-17 instead.
As for 225s in back, lots of dudes do it - so don't worry about it. It won't look the best but at least you've staggered the tires. |

Yes, exactly as I tought
thank you!And what if I would left 215 on the rear, and go 205 on the front... would that fit 7.5 nicely and have funcionality, or would be ugly and miss ?? ![]() |

A 205/40? Yeah, that would work fine with a 215 rear, seen that a billion times over - a decent handler too.
As for being ugly, that's purely subjective. Below is a 205/215 setup, looks good to me. I personally don't like the idea of non-staggered wheels/tires on the Mark II. I mean, it shipped like that from the factory, right? Why defeat that special setup? Besides, it looks boss having meaty rear wheels contrasting with slightly narrower fronts, a staggered setup looks like you mean business. ![]() |

I used to have a set of 17x7 wheels that came w/ my first MR2. Worst setup EVER. Got me some stock 93+ 15'' wheels and the handling was INSANELY better. Better response, traction, ride quality, etc.
I'd almost suggest picking up a cheap set of properly staggered wheels if you can afford it. If not, staggering tires will help a bit at least . |

I'd use 205/40 17 front and 225/45 17 (actually I'd buy new wheels).

+1 vote for selling the wheels and buying staggered ones. I wouldn't go narrower than 8" in the back, nor would I stagger the sizes front to back less than 20mm.
