Need advice on correct wheel/offset combo

Hello there,
I am after a wheel and tyre combo as a second set for circuit racing here in Japan.

I found some Volk TE37's for sale -
front 16 x 7.0J (OFFSET+33 PCD: 114.3-5H)
rear 16 x 8.0J (OFFSET+30 PCD: 114.3-5H)

Would a 16' rim combo such as this be best-matched for the MR2? Or should I step up to 17's?

I'm thinking a 225 front / 245 rear combo. Is this enough?

Sounds like a good setup.
I would want wider wheels though.

What's the limit for a well-setup MR2? I.e, still retaining quality balance, and not rubbing the wheel arches or needing any rolling of the fenders etc?
Surely an 8.5J rim would be the max right? I can't see anything larger than 255 fitting on the back without encountering trouble (although I could be completely off the mark here! )

9 with ease assuming the offset is on the high side (+41 clears, many have run 9 +43 with 255) with a 255.

8.5 with a 245 will be a good fit for you if it's available. 7.5 with the 225 if possible. haven't looked at te37 options in 15 and 16 in quite some time.

Those figures relating to 16' or 17' rims?

doesn't matter, but people generally use 17 due to limited rear tire choices. If you're running race tires, choices are better and staying 15 or 16 is better.

^ I think that's one of the better choices too. Fronts in 16s aren't too hard to get because the SW20 has limited space in front anyway and there are a lot of 205 to 225 tire brand choices in 16s. But this car needs wide rubber out back - and that's where 17s pick up the slack.

Don't run a 205 up front and a 255 in back though. If there is too much difference, you'll get understeer problems. And the reverse holds true, if you run too little or no difference in width, you'll have oversteer problems. I believe a 20 to 30 mm difference is about right.
