What Is The Best Suspension Setup?
I have a 91 NA with KSport Coilovers(installed by previous owner). The left front is leaking and i'm looking for a fix. I wanted to just replace the insert but after checking the opinions of others, it seems that there are many others with reliability horror stories with KSport.
What suspension set-ups are you guys running and are you pleased? If you had to replace your suspension, would you do the same set-up again? Thanks in advance |

I use yellow bilstein shocks, probably the best fixed rate shocks for the sw20. Along with some tein springs very good for street use

I've been through stock '91, stock '95 w/ TRD sways, then TRD springs w/ Koni yellows. Now I'm on TEIN Super Streets, inherited from the PO. After my initial hesitance and after driving on the coilovers for a couple of months, I really like them. They're lousy over potholes but I'm surprised how much more suspension travel I have and their real 'independence' from each other, how well they track, they're controllability.
I can't say it's the best suspension ever, but it is quite an improvement over the best that stock has to offer. One thing I'm not yet familiar with, their limits. They don't give me a whole lot of time to react once I've hit it. I've already spun out twice (but it was wet out & I miscalculated). |

"Best" is awfully subjective...
My 2 is mostly street driven, but I do try to get to a few autocrosses and open track events when I can/when the car cooperates. I'm pretty happy with my formula so far: Koni yellow's + TRD springs + TRD sway bars + Two's R Us endlinks + Prothane bushings + new ball joints + new tie rods + a good alignment = win. |

Thanks. I typically am a daily driver with some spirited driving on the weekends. I don't like to beat the car up as I plan on keeping it for a long time.
I have had a few BMWs in the past that had Bilsteins and they were awesome. I just haven't been able to locate any for the Mr2. If anybody knows where I can get a set, it would be much appreciated. I know that "best" is very subjective but I figured the only ones who would respond would be the ones who were passionate about their suspension set-ups. I figure if you can't passionate about what you're doing then why do it? You guys are awesome. Thanks again!!!1 |

This was Eibach Sportlines with Tokiko Adjustables. Bad ride IMHO for when I had them installed. You felt EVERYTHING, but handled amazing. It was my first lowering experience and I neglected the bushings, ball joints and reseting the camber. Probably wouldve had a different opinion if I did that. Take lots of advice and hopefully you'll make a informed decision.
![]() I like what Redstar has... definitely something to seriously consider. Cant decide between TRD springs or Tanabes right now, but defnitely go with KONI yellows, they have a great track record. Last edited by awaken; 11-13-2010 at 01:14 AM.. |

Everyones got a different version of "perfect".The size of your rims & tire will factor in. With 17" tenzos and the right tires it should look very nice and handle much better.

Best is something you can change to suit any given condition/road/track, IMO.
The stock suspension is a good compromise between handling performance and comfort. Some upgraded sway bars will lessen linear roll without making it harsh like lowering springs or coilovers. Many of the roads in my area have been damaged by rain, so it upsets the car quite badly. For wet conditions, a softer suspension setup is more compliant and is extremely fun. Upgraded/stiffer suspension tries to push the tire too much when there isn't as much grip to be had, so many end up spinning off the road. |
