chassis mods

hi

i am currently trying to mod my mr2 chassis in order to be more efficient

you could see the tuning of my car in my presentation, here:french owner's of mr2 mk2
i already put on it TRD sway bar and strut tower bar, that's give me an incredible good feeling of the road

i just purchase a set of trd lowering spring , (i actually run supra 16' rims that have put my car a little high with the stocks suspension)

so i am on search for a good set of damper,
i am looking into kyb agx because they are adjustable, and my car is for occasionaly race time
does a rewelding around suspension could be a good things to do

i am actually 3sge but i have a JDM 3SGTE waiting for a swap

i am also looking for a possibilities of camber adjustement , and i am surprise to see their is no camber plates but only adjustement screws kits

does someone can help me on my search of a perfect mr2 chassis??

cheers

if you want good struts then stay away from kyb. get either tokiko or konis. there are adj pillow mounts available if you look around (tien for example)

Yeah, I have a set of the Koni adjustable struts and they're great. Depending on the mileage of your car, I'd check the chassis reinforcement points. There are some just forward of the rear wheel wells that commonly rot. A good stiff chassis will help the car's feel dramatically. Also, you may want to look into polyurethane bushings, since every movement in the suspension has to go through the slack in the rubber bushings.

MCS has adjustable control arms.
Ultra racing has fender braces.
I have the EMSPowered front bar (It's great)
Tanabe makes 4-pt. underbody brace that I heard does virtually nothing.
Tein makes camber plates that my buddy uses, although you can use the Toyota crash bolt to adjust the camber settings up to about 3 degrees. The OBX crash bolts offer more adjustment than the smallest Toyota bolts, allegedly.
Get Konis or Tokicos (I use Konis) as I've only heard bad things about the AGX's dampening.

yeah stay away from kybs, I have them, they suck. its great for daily driving but I'm doing more track and auto-x and these poor guys are just not holding up.

If you want adjustale camber it depens how much you want to spend? Coil-overs are the best, but the camber bolts would do just fine.

you can get great suspension out of stock struts/sping combo too. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

I currently have some Cusco pillowball camber plates for sale. They are located in Kingston ON.

I just did my whole suspension. Mostly from David at Twos R Us...
Prothane full bushing kit, all new ball joints and tie rod ends, Suspension Technique Sway bars F/R, Ksport Kontrols, Ksport front endlinks, and Twos R Us High and tight rear sway end links. Im just waiting on two wheel bearings and the cars 16 yr old suspension will be completely brand new!

If you plan on doing the bushings, make sure ur ball joints and wheel bearings are good. Or else it will be best to do them all together!

"Cheers" -- I'm assuming you're in England? (EDIT: NVM, France)

TwosRUs.com sells a complete set. You just have to know which sway bar your car is equipped with.

Yeah, I got my set from twosRus.com too. They're a vendor and you can find them on the main page of this forum, or with a quick google search. Most 93+ swaybars are 19mm but you should definitely double check yours with a set of calipers (clean the bar first, mine was caked in enough junk to make it read out 21mm before cleaning).

better flush that 50/50 ideals out of you, that's for FWD who can never retain any marginal rear bias

These parts as in the bushings? There's a few around here who've done them, they're not hard to get in, it's just that the stock rubber ones are a pain to get out. I drilled / burned / muscled them out, then I cleaned the parts, lubed them up and the polys went in nice and smooth like.

Also, 50/50 is just marketing garbage to make front engined cars seem attractive, ideal is rear weight bias, see lotus for details.
